Savannah, Ga. -
Freshman right-hander Courtney Conron tossed a five-inning no-hitter and struck out eight to propel The Rock to a 14-0 win over hapless Division I rival Savannah State.
The win was The Rock's first of the season and the first of rookie head coach Vashion Johnson's collegiate career.
Sophomore designated player Maureen Brown was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs to lead The Rock hitting attack.
The Rock benefitted from seven Savannah State errors and scored six unearned runs en route to the run-rule-shortened victory.
SRU exploded for 10 runs in the top of the first inning, added two in the third frame and single tallies in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Conron's bid for a perfect game was thwarted in the fourth inning when she walked two batters; her teammates played error-free defense behind her.
