Box Score
Slippery Rock, Pa. -
Senior right fielder Jason Curry, playing only his second game since coming back from a preseason wrist injury, smacked a pair of home runs and accounted for three RBIs to lead The Rock to a 7-3 win over Salem International in the first game of Thursday's non-conference doubleheader at Jack Critchfield Park.
Curry's first roundtripper was a two-run shot that tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning. Senior center fielder Matt Kozusko followed up three hitters later with a two-run double to put The Rock ahead for good, 4-2.
Curry then hit a solo shot in the fourth inning to answer a single tally by Salem International in the top of the fourth. The blast put SRU ahead, 5-3, and proved to be the game-winning hit.
Senior designated hitter Joe Pascarella completed The Rock's scoring with a two-run double later in the fourth frame.
The extra-base hits by Curry, Kozusko and Pascarella accounted for four of five Rock hits in the game. Freshman second baseman Phil Butch beat out a bunt single for the other SRU hit.
The beneficiary of the long-ball attack was sophomore right-hander Adam Ritts, who pitched a complete game to even his record at 1-1. Ritts scattered 10 hits, allowed three earned runs, struck out three and walked three.
