Stubblefield's layup lifts Rock past Clarion, 60-59

Clarion, Pa. - Freshman guard Justen Stubblefield's layup with 20.3 seconds left to play accounted for the winning points in The Rock's 60-59 win over Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

Clarion had a chance to win the game in the final seconds but missed a layup just prior to the final buzzer.

The win improved The Rock's record to 7-17 overall and moved SRU into a tie with Clarion (14-10) for the fourth and final PSAC-West playoff berth. Both teams are 4-5 in conference action.

Junior guard Bill Johnson scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds for The Rock, while junior forward Jason Taylor added 13 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore center Glenn Reepmeyer led SRU with 13 rebounds and chipped in nine points.

The Rock trailed by as many as six points in the first half before going into intermission with a 33-32 deficit. SRU held the biggest lead of the second half, a five-point, 57-52, advantage with seven minutes left to play.

SRU travels PSAC-West archrival Indiana U. of Pa. for an 8 p.m. game on Saturday before hosting division-leading California U. of Pa. next Wednesday.
