Rock drops OT thriller to division-leading Edinboro

Slippery Rock, Pa. - For the second time in the last three games, The Rock had a division-leading team on the ropes but could not deliver the knockout punch.

One week to the day after dropping a 69-65 overtime decision at divison co-leader California U. of Pa., The Rock )6-16, 3-5) lost an 82-80 extra-period decision Wednesday night to co-leader Edinboro (13-10, 7-1) in front of an enthusiastic crowd in Morrow Field House.

The Rock led by five points, 71-66, with 2:32 left in regulation time but was outscored by a 7-2 margin in the remaining time. A 3-pointer by the Fighting Scots' Rob Green with 0:38 left sent the game into overtime.

Edinboro scored the first three points in overtime, but The Rock responded with a 4-0 run to take a 77-76 edge with 3:13 left in the extra period. SRU also held an 80-79 edge with 0:54 left to play before Edinboro snatched victory away with a free throw and a jump shot. The game-winning basket by Rob Sims came with 0:26 left.

The Rock had a balanced scoring attack as four players finished in double figures and two others ended the game with nine points each.

Junior guard Jajuan Davis scored a team-high 17 points, junior guard Bill Johnson added 16 points and five assists, sophomore forward Glenn Reepmeyer chipped in 13 points a seven rebounds and senior guard Dave Johnson finished with 12 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.

Sophomore guard Shaun Grill and junior forward Jason Taylor had nine points each, while senior forward Jerome Smalls had a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Rock will travel to Pitt-Johnstown for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game on Saturday. That will be the first of three straight road games for the Green and White.
