Rock rings up eighth win, 3-2 over Wheeling Jesuit

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Gary Saunders scored on a corner kick in the 89th minute of action Tuesday afternoon to give The Rock a 3-2 win over visiting Wheeling Jesuit in non-conference action on James W. Egli Field.

The win gave The Rock a 8-5-2 record. Wheeling Jesuit fell to 4-7-3.

Dave Keller scored a goal off an assist by Nick Christy in the 67th minute to tie the score at 2-2 and set the stage for Saunders' game-winning tally.

Ed Mocarsky's goal in the 35th minute of action off an assist by Jeff Hamley tied the score at 1-1, which is where it stood heading into the intermission.

Mocarsky was also credited with an assist on Saunders'game-winning tally.

Rock goalie Pat Passewitz recorded four saves as SRU outshot the guests by an 18-8 margin.

The Rock travels to Bloomsburg for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest at noon on Saturday and visits Geneva College on Oct. 27 for a 7 p.m. non-conference game before closing out the regular season with an Oct. 30 home game vs. PSAC rival East Stroudsburg (2 p.m. on Egli Field).

SRU is currently in the hunt for one of two berths yet to be awarded to the four-team PSAC playoffs. The Rock is in fifth place with seven points, two behind fourth-place Kutztown and three behind third-place Lock Haven, with two conference games left to be played.
