Joe Phillips and his linemates led a smothering effort from the Slippery Rock defense that forced eight sacks, 13 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and four interceptions while controlling the line of scrimmage all day.
 
The sophomore from Washington, Pa. had the best game of his young career, finishing with three sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and his first career interception. Phillips finished fourth on the team in total tackles with six, including five solo stops. His tackles behind the line of scrimmage went for a loss of 20 yards, while his sacks went for a loss of 17 yards.
