The 2025-26 season will mark the 28th year that Matt Meredith has overseen the Slippery Rock University women’s tennis program. Meredith has led SRU to unprecedented success during his time at The Rock.
One of the winningest coaches in Division II history, Meredith has established Slippery Rock as a premier women’s tennis program in the Atlantic Region over the last 27 seasons. He has led The Rock to 393 victories, 20 NCAA Tournament berths, four regional championships and 23 seasons with a .500 or better winning percentage.

2024-25
• Slippery Rock produced one of the top seasons in program history after winning a regional championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 16 as part of a year in which SRU went 15-10 overall and 5-1 inside the PSAC West.
• Ended year ranked as the No. 49 team in the nation by the ITA.
• Advanced to the finals of the PSAC Tournament.
• Amaia Balaguer Brau repeated as the PSAC West Athlete of the Year.
• Alissia Kivi earned PSAC West Freshman of the Year recognition.
• Balaguer Brau, Kivi, Tina Slovak and Nicole Kempton all garnered spots on the All-PSAC West Team.
• Kempton was named to the CSC Academic All-America Team while Slovak, Georgie Lancaster and Dari Sakhanova took spots on the CSC Academic All-District Team.

2023-24
• Another stellar season in which Meredith guided SRU to a 15-8 record and a 5-1 league record to finish second in the PSAC West standings for a fourth consecutive season.
• SRU claimed runner-up honors in the PSAC Tournament and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for a sixth straight season where it once again won an opening-round match.
• Amaia Balaguer Brau was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year and Nicole Kempton earned PSAC West Freshman of the Year honors.
• Balaguer Brau, Kempton and Gabriela del Val del Toro all earned All-PSAC West recognition as well.
• Off the court, Slippery Rock recorded the third highest GPA of all PSAC women’s tennis teams (3.650).

• The Rock had four athletes earn All-PSAC West honors in Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez (singles / doubles), Gabriela del Val del Toro (singles), Dari Sakhanova (singles) and Teddi Isherwood (doubles).
• Sakhanova also received PSAC West Freshman of the Year recognition.
• Gonzalez Sanchez was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American for a second consecutive campaign.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award and had five athletes named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
2021-22
• The Rock made their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, winning an opening-round game against West Liberty, on the way to an impressive 16-8 record.
• Finished second in the PSAC West standings with a 5-1 league mark.
• Meredith named PSAC West Coach of the Year.
• For a second consecutive year, Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez and Lois Page both were named to the first team All-PSAC West singles and doubles teams while Gabriela del Val del Toro collected second team All-PSAC West singles recognition.
• Gonzalez Sanchez was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2020-21
• Playing an abbreviated schedule to pandemic, Meredith led The Rock back to competition with an 8-7 record and an NCAA Tournament selection.
• Finished second in the PSAC West standings with a 5-1 league mark.
• Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year.
• Gonzalez Sanchez and Lois Page both were named to the first team All-PSAC West singles and doubles teams while Gabriela del Val del Toro collected second team All-PSAC West singles recognition.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2019-20
• Slippery Rock started year with a 6-4 record before the season was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
• Lacey Cohen was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in addition to earning a place on the PSAC Spring Top 10.
• Meredith coached Lois Page and Viola Lugmayr to the PSAC Doubles championship in the fall.
• Page and Lugmayr went on to earn All-America honors after winning the ITA Atlantic Region Doubles championship and competing in the ITA Cup.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2018-19
• SRU returned to form in impressive fashion, finishing the year at 16-9 overall, winning the PSAC West regular season championship and earning an NCAA Tournament bid.
• For a sixth time, Meredith received PSAC West Coach of the Year recognition.
• Four members of the program earned postseason awards led by Lacey Cohen, who was tabbed the PSAC West Athlete of the Year after earning first honors as both a singles and doubles competitor.
• Lois Page and Viola Lugmayr each garnered first team doubles and second team singles honors while Olivia Warner was voted a first team doubles athlete.
• Meredith coached Cohen to the PSAC Singles championship.
• Cohen was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
• Lugmayr was the recipient of the ITA Atlantic Region Arthur Ashe, Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2017-18
• Slippery Rock went 13-13 overall, placing third in the PSAC West standings and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.
• Meredith won his 300th collegiate match with an 8-1 victory over Ashland on April 15.
• Lacey Cohen earned first team all-league honors in singles and second team recognition in doubles while Carla Corrochano Moracho closed her career with second team all-conference (doubles) honors.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2016-17
• SRU compiled a 9-11 overall record.
• Lacey Cohen was voted the PSAC West Freshman of the Year while also earning first team all-conference honors.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2015-16
• Meredith guided The Rock back to another winning season with a 14-10 record that allowed SRU to return to the NCAA Tournament.
• Carla Corrochano Moracho received first team All-PSAC West accolades for a second consecutive year.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2014-15
• Slippery Rock had its eight-year postseason berth streak snapped after going 10-11.
• Carla Corrochano Moracho earned the first of her two first team All-PSAC West awards.

2013-14
• SRU compiled a 13-13 overall record while making the NCAA Tournament once again.
• Nina Grbac served as The Rock’s lone first team All-PSAC West honoree.
• Lauren Coggins became the first athlete in program history to earn the prestigious ITA National Arthur Ashe, Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2012-13
• Slippery Rock made another trip to the NCAA Tournament while concluding the year at 12-9 overall.
• Janelle Krantz was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American for the second time in her career.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2011-12
• SRU compiled a 15-6 overall record and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in as many seasons.
• For the third and second times in their respective careers, Sarah Lynch and Dunja Drmac were both named to the All-PSAC West first team.
• Janelle Krantz was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.

• The Rock defeated West Virginia State to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
• Sarah Lynch was once again named to the All-PSAC West first team.

2009-10
• Slippery Rock recorded its best national finish in program history as The Rock reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
• SRU produced its fourth-consecutive 20-win year at 22-6.
• Finished second in the PSAC West standings with a 4-1 league mark.
• Meredith won his 200th collegiate match with a 5-3 victory over St. Cloud State on May 12.
• Meredith earned PSAC West Coach of the Year accolades for a fifth time.
• Slippery Rock once again had three representatives on the All-PSAC West first team in Sarah Lynch, Laura Handy and Dunja Drmac.
2008-09
• Slippery Rock’s dominance continued with another 20-win season (22-5) and its eighth NCAA Tournament bid during Meredith’s tenure.
• Finished second in the PSAC West standings with a 4-1 league mark.
• The trio of Jessica Hilborn, Kayla Blackburn and Laura Handy were all first team All-PSAC West honorees with Blackburn earning the prestigious honor for a fourth straight season.
2007-08
• Meredith led The Rock to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for a second time after a year in which SRU went 22-4 overall.
• SRU beat Holy Family and Bryant in the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament to win the region before falling to Valdosta State.
• Finished second in the PSAC West standings.
• Meredith was selected as the PSAC West Coach of the Year.
• Kayla Blackburn and Laura Handy were both voted on to the All-PSAC West first team.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2006-07
• Slippery Rock registered its most wins in school history behind a 23-6 season in which The Rock won their final nine matches of the regular season on the way to PSAC and NCAA Tournament appearances.
• SRU defeated Bentley in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
• Kayla Blackburn was a first team All-PSAC West selection for a second straight year while Laura Handy was named the PSAC West Rookie of the Year all the while earning first team all-conference honors as well.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2005-06
• Following a rare down-season, SRU returned to form by going 14-7 and making the PSAC Tournament.
• Meredith won his 100th collegiate match with a 7-2 victory over Grove City on Oct. 11.
• For the third time in his career, Meredith earned PSAC West Coach of the Year accolades.
• Ashley Michaux and Kayla Blackburn both earned first team All-PSAC West recognition with Blackburn also going on to earn PSAC West Rookie of the Year accolades.
• Slippery Rock earned the ITA’s Team Academic Award.
2004-05
• Slippery Rock slipped to 6-11 during a re-building year in 2004-05.
• For the first time in program history Slippery Rock had a member of its roster named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year as Ashley Michaux was tabbed the league’s top player.
• Meredith coached Jessica Bungo and Michaux to the PSAC Doubles championship.
2003-04
• The Rock concluded the year at 15-9 en route to earning a fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
• Ashley Michaux and Jessica Bungo were both named to the All-PSAC West first team.
• Jessica Bungo was named to the PSAC Spring Top 10.
2002-03
• Meredith coached The Rock to one of the best seasons in school-history with a 21-3 record.
• SRU won its first PSAC Championship in nearly 20 seasons while advancing all the way to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
• Meredith was once again named the PSAC West Coach of the Year.
• Ashley Michaux was named the PSAC West’s Rookie of the Year while also garnering first team all-conference accolades as she led five Rock all-league honorees along with fellow first teamer’s Ella Reilly and Jessica Bungo.
• Reilly became the first CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree in program history while once again being named to the PSAC Spring Top 10.
• Bungo was the recipient of the ITA Atlantic Region Arthur Ashe, Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.
2001-02
• The Rock achieved the first 20-win season in program history as SRU concluded the year with an impressive 20-5 record.
• In addition to yet again earning an NCAA Tournament bid, SRU also won its first match at the national tournament over Merrimack.
• Meredith earned his first PSAC West Coach of the Year honor.
• Ella Reilly and Kelly Anderson were both named to the All-PSAC West first team.
• Reilly was named to the PSAC Spring Top 10.
2000-01
• Meredith earned his first winning season as a collegiate head coach after The Rock went 17-12.
• The Rock once again qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
• Led by PSAC West Rookie of the Year Jessica Bungo, The Rock placed three athletes on the all-conference team.
1999-00
• Slippery Rock went 10-12 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history, and the first time since 1995-96.
1998-99
• Meredith guided The Rock to a 9-10 overall record in first season as head coach.
• Meredith won his first collegiate match with a 7-2 victory over Mercyhurst on Sept. 5.
THE ROCK IN THE CLASSROOM
• Academically, The Rock has had five student-athletes earn CoSIDA Academic All-America recognition over Meredith’s tenure.
• Additionally, the SRU women’s tennis annually compiles one of the top team GPA’s in the PSAC. Over the last 13 academic years, Meredith’s teams have finished the year with a team GPA of at least 3.331.
• Four former Rock athletes had their efforts in the community recognized when they received the Arthur Ashe Jr. ITA Atlantic Region Leadership and Sportsmanship Award in Bungo (2003), Dunja Drmac (2012), Lauren Coggins (2014), who also had the ITA national award bestowed upon her, and Viola Lugmary (2019).
• Dating back to the 2003-04 season, Slippery Rock has put 86 of its student-athletes on the ITA Scholar-Athlete Team.
• The Rock has also had a representative on the prestigious PSAC Top 10 on four occasions as Ella Reilly earned the honor twice (2001-02, 2002-03) followed by Jessica Bungo (2003-04) and Lacey Cohen (2019-20).
CAREER PATH
• Prior to becoming head coach at Slippery Rock, Meredith served one season as coach at his high school alma mater, DuBois, where he led his team to a 12-1 record in 1993.
• He then served over three years in the Philadelphia area as assistant tennis pro at the Bucks County Racquet Club, where he worked with nationally and regionally ranked junior tennis players.
• Meredith also served five years as tennis director at Treasure Lakes Resort.

PLAYING CAREER
• Meredith enjoyed a standout collegiate career at Slippery Rock where he earned three varsity letters, served two seasons as a team captain and was a two-time recipient of the program’s "Most Valuable Player" award.
• He was especially effective in doubles as he compiled a 38-20 (.655) record during his collegiate career.
PERSONAL
• A graduate of DuBois High School in DuBois, Pennsylvania.
• Meredith graduated from Slippery Rock in 1992 with a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education/social studies (history concentration).
• Resides in Slippery Rock.
• Meredith is the father of children Keaton and Samantha.
