Ashley Martin will enter his fourth season as assistant coach of the Slippery Rock women’s soccer team in 2011. Martin, a former assistant coach at Flagler College in Florida, was named as the top assistant to veteran Rock head coach Noreen Herlihy in December 2007.
Prior to joining The Rock staff, Martin served one season as assistant coach at Flagler and also had experience as an assistant coach on the high school level. He served as an assistant girls soccer coach at St. Joseph Academy in St. Augustine, Fla., from 2004-07 and was assistant boys soccer coach at St. Joseph from 2003-04.
The St. Joseph girls team won the 2005 Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A district championship and played in the 2006 state title game.
Prior to starting his coaching career, Martin was a four-year varsity player and one-year captain on the Flagler men's team. He was a member of the 2003 team that advanced to the NAIA Region XIV finals.
Martin hails from Solihull, England, where was a member of the Solihull Football Academy, Solihull Sixth Form College and Lyndon School teams. He helped the Sixth Form College team win the 1998-99 Solihull Cup championship and was part of the 1998 Birmingham City Cup championship effort at Lyndon School.
In addition to his coaching experience at St. Joseph Academy and Flagler, Martin served as a Coventry City Football Club Academy and Football in the Community coach in Coventry, England, and taught in the Solihull Football Development Scheme and Football Development Service in Rugby/Coventry, England.
Martin holds the following certifications: NSCAA National Diploma, English FA Coaching Certificate Level 1 & 2 and English FA Basic Treatment and Rehabilitation of Injury Certificate.
