Mariah Casserly was named Slippery Rock’s first full-time women’s lacrosse assistant coach in August of 2009 and will embark on her first season this spring.
Casserly will work primarily with The Rock’s defensive unit this spring, while also assisting with all other facets of the program.
Casserly joined The Rock staff after serving three seasons as an assistant at St. Lawrence, where she assisted with all facets of the program and spent time during the offseason running camps and clinics.
“We’re very excited to bring Mariah to Slippery Rock,” said Paul Lueken, director of athletics. “She brings an outstanding level of experience and knowledge of the game, both as a former standout player and as a coach.”
Casserly, a native of Canton, N.Y., earned her undergraduate degree from Ithaca College in 2005.
At Ithaca, she excelled as a player, earning All-Conference honors in four consecutive years.
Casserly finished her career with 136 points, scoring 115 goals and handing out 21 assists. She also picked up 184 ground balls.
On top of her on-field success, Casserly also excelled in the classroom, earning her four-time Empire 8 All-Academic honors.
Casserly began her duties as an assistant coach at St. Lawrence prior to the 2007 season and remained with the Saints through the spring of 2009.
Casserly earned her master’s degree from St. Lawrence in May of 2008.
