Ashley Carter was named assistant coach of the Slippery Rock softball program in the fall of 2014. She concluded her fourth season on head coach Stacey Rice’s staff in 2018.
During her time at The Rock, Carter has helped lead SRU to a 76-89 record. Over the last four years, Slippery Rock has had 13 players earn All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division honors and one has been selected as the PSAC West’s Athlete of the Year.
Carter helped guide The Rock to a 24-19 in 2018 record narrowly missing the PSAC Tournament. However, SRU’s 24 wins were the most for the program since 2008.
In 2017, Slippery Rock went 17-24 and just missed out on a conference tournament bid.
In her second season in 2016, Carter helped guide The Rock to a 20-23 record and spot in the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2009. The 20 victories were the most for Slippery Rock since the 2010 season.
The 2015 season, Carter’s first with SRU, saw Slippery Rock go 15-23 and narrowly miss out on earning a PSAC Tournament bid.
Carter joined the softball staff as the top assistant after a successful playing career at Cal State Fullerton. Carter was also a member of the Pennsylvania Rebellion, a professional women’s softball team that competes as part of National Pro Fastpitch.
Carter graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 2013 as the Titan’s fourth highest leader in career triples (nine) and ranked eighth in fielding percentage (.988). She was a first team All-Big West Conference selection in 2012 as an outfielder after recording team-highs in hits, batting average, runs scored and extra-base hits.
Carter also has experience playing with the California A’s, a competitive fastpitch softball travel team based out of Newport Beach, California. In 2012, Carter played outfield for the squad that won the Women’s Elite Fastpitch Canadian Cup, defeating national teams from Japan, Australia and Venezuela. She also had a short career in Mexico for Team Ruthless, which was coached by former USA Olympian Crystl Bustos.
In April 2016, Carter was selected as an assistant coach for Ireland's Women's National Fastpitch team in the World Softball Championships.
A native of Fontana, California, Carter has also spent time at EM Speed and Power as a training coach, as well as a slap hitting coach.
