The 2025-26 academic year will mark Bill Jordan’s fourth year as head coach of the SRU track and field and cross country programs. Jordan took over in June of 2022 after spending 17 seasons as an assistant coach with the program. He moved into the position after the retirement of his mentor John Papa, who retired from SRU in June of 2022 after serving as head coach for more than 35 years.

SEASON-BY-SEASON BREAK

2024-25

• Oversaw the women's cross country team that won the PSAC title and took second at the Atlantic Region meet.
• Led The Rock women to a PSAC title during the indoor track & field season for the second year in a row.
• SRU women won seven of the 17 events at the PSAC indoor meet.
• SRU had 20 total athletes earn All-Region honors during the indoor season.
• Pole vaulter Drew Layton broke the all-time PSAC record (5.24m) to earn first team All-America honors with a sixth place finish at the indoor national meet.
• SRU's men took third at the PSAC indoor championships for a 14th straight top three finish indoor.
• SRU sent a PSAC-leading three athletes to the indoor National Championships, including the only female qualifier in Anna Igims.
• SRU completed the 2024-25 women’s PSAC title sweep by winning the outdoor championships with eight individual conference champions and 24 All-PSAC honorees.
• The Rock men took third at the PSAC Championships while producing three individual conference champions and 11 all-conference performers.
• Slippery Rock sent seven total athletes to the Outdoor National Championships with five claiming All-America accolades in Anna Igims (Steeplechase), Isabella Bartoletti (javelin), Drew Layton (pole vault), Kanye Thompson (100-meters) and Seaton Wozniak (shot put).
• SRU had 30 total athletes earn All-Region honors during the outdoor season.

2023-24
• Jordan was named USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year for the 2024 indoor season.
• Jordan led SRU's women to the 2024 PSAC indoor title for the seventh title in program history. 
• Jordan led the SRU men's track & field team to a runner-up finish at the PSAC indoor meet.
• Kendall Grossman was named an All-American in the pole vault.
• SRU's women's XC team won the 2023 PSAC title for their first title since 1995. The Rock finished second at the Atlantic Region Championships and qualified as a team for the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championships.
• SRU men's XC finished second at the 2023 PSAC Championships.

2022-23
• Jordan was named USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year for the 2023 outdoor season.
• Jordan led SRU's women to the 2023 PSAC outdoor title for the 17th title in program history. 
• Jordan and The Rock coaching staff was named 2023 PSAC Women's Coaching Staff of the Year
• Jordan led the SRU men's track & field team to runner-up finishes at the PSAC indoor and outdoor meets.
• All six of Jordan’s teams finished in the top five in their respective conference championship.
• Anna Igmis selected as a RockAthletics.com Athlete of the Year.
• Sarah Corrie finished 16th in the shot put at the 2023 indoor National Championships
• Trinity Clark was 13th in the javelin and Anna Igims was 15th in the steeplechase at the 2023 outdoor National Championships.
• John Eakin was 13th in the shot put and Dalton Anderson was 14th in the javelin at the 2023 outdoor National Championships.
 
THE ROCK IN THE CLASSROOM
• Just as impressive as The Rock’s athletic performances under Jordan have been the program’s academic prowess.
• Every Slippery Rock men’s and women’s track & field and cross country teams have recorded GPAs of at least 3.30 in each of the last three years.
• Jordan-led teams have won four PSAC Team GPA Awards
• 14 student-athletes have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team with 28 receiving CSC Academic All-District recognition.
• Ethan Brentham (2023 men’s cross country) and Jennifer Cichra (2024 women’s cross country) were bestowed with NCAA Elite 90 Award.
• The Rock track & field and cross country programs have claimed 12 spots on PSAC Top 10 Teams (Fall / Winter / Spring) over the last three years.

CAREER PATH
• As an assistant, Jordan was the primary coach for The Rock’s much-heralded pole vaulters and multi-event athletes, in addition to guiding SRU’s triple, high and long jumpers.
• Throughout his tenure as an assistant, Jordan also assisted with the sprinters, throwers and distance runners.
• Served as an assistant cross country coach.
• During his time at Slippery Rock, Jordan has helped coach The Rock’s men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor teams to 13 PSAC team championships and 27 PSAC second-place finishes.
• Over his tenure, Jordan has coached four national champions, 37 All-America performers, 79 NCAA Division II national qualifiers, 85 PSAC individual champions and 345 All-PSAC performers.
• Jordan helped The Rock become the only program in the PSAC to bring home four track and field trophies in 2021-22 as The Rock took second for both the men and women at the PSAC Championship meets indoor and outdoor.
• Jordan coached Cecily Greggs to a sweep of the PSAC titles in the high jump, helped coach John Eakin to a sweep of the conference crowns in the shot put and coach Dan Hyatt to a sweep of the league titles in the pole vault. He also coach freshman AJ Virata to a PSAC title in the high jump outdoor. He also coached Jason Goodman to the league titles in the heptathlon and decathlon for a stretch of four straight multi-event wins.
• Greggs earned All-America honors in the high jump during the indoor season in 2021-22 and The Rock qualified four individual athletes for the outdoor national championships, leading all programs in the PSAC. SRU came away from the 2022 outdoor championships with three All-Americans, including first team honorees Trinity Clark and Dalton Anderson, who would go on to be named Regional Athletes of the Year for their performances in the javelin.
• Jordan helped coach the 2019-20 women's indoor team to a PSAC championship and the men's team to a solid third-place showing at the league meet. Cecily Greggs won a PSAC individual title in the high jump for the women's team while Jordan-coached heptathlon performers Jason Goodman and Dylan Colcombe took first and second place, respectively, for the men's team.
• His position groups were also crucial in The Rock’s success a in 2018-19. The men’s and women’s pole vault, javelin, long jump, triple jump, high jump and multi-event specialists combined to produce four national qualifiers, one All-American, six PSAC champions and 14 All-PSAC honorees.
• Jordan guided The Rock’s top pole vaulter duo of Maddy Marshall and Courtney McQuaide to four combined All-America honors from 2017-19. Marshall claimed All-America accolades during both the indoor and outdoor seasons during 2017-18 while McQuaide captured a national championship during the 2018 outdoor season, becoming the first SRU women’s pole vaulter to earn the sport’s highest honor, followed by an All-America performance during the 2018-19 indoor season.
• In 2013-14, Jordan coached David Reinhardt to one of the best seasons by a field athlete in Slippery Rock history. Reinhardt won a national championship in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 68.83 meters while also being named the PSAC Men's Field Athlete of the Year and the Most Outstanding Field Event Athlete at the PSAC Outdoor Championships.
• In addition to Reinhardt’s success in 2013-14, Jordan also coached three PSAC Outdoor champions in Julie Cain (pole vault), Sam Taylor (javelin) and Tyler Kachelries (javelin) as well as a trio of PSAC Indoor champions in Hans Lubich (heptathlon), Jordan Pacheco (pole vault) and Kaitlyn Clark (pole vault). Cain and Lubich both went on to earn All-America honors in their respective events.
• 2012-13 was another standout year for Jordan’s athletes as Cameron Daugherty (indoor pole vault), Ashley West (indoor high jump), Julia Cain (outdoor pole vault) and Lexi Arnold (javelin) all earned All-America accolades for Slippery Rock. Daugherty also won the pole vault championship at both the PSAC Indoor Championships and the PSAC Outdoor Championships. Other athletes to win PSAC titles under Jordan’s watch were Arnold (javelin), Cain (indoor pole vault) and Derick Fielder (indoor heptathlon).
• Jordan coached his second national champion in 2011-12 when Daugherty claimed the outdoor pole vault title. Other top athletes for Jordan that season included Kim Stitt, who won the pentathlon at the PSAC Championships, and conference indoor pole vault champion Angela Schroeder.
• The 2010-11 season was another stellar year for Jordan’s athletes. The crowning achievement for the season was high jumper Whitney Hendershot winning the national championship in the high jump during the outdoor season with a clearance of 1.74 meters. After winning her first PSAC title Lexi Arnold (javelin) earned All-America honors with a fifth place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships while fellow javelin thrower Kim Goth also qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, placing 11th.
• During the indoor season Jordan helped Kelly Bruder win the pentathlon championship at the PSAC indoor championships. On the men’s side, Brady Wert won the conference title in the heptathlon during the indoor season before winning the PSAC crown in the decathlon and also qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
 
PLAYING CAREER
• As a student-athlete at SRU, Jordan finished 13th in the decathlon at the 2005 national championship meet. He also won the 2005 PSAC outdoor decathlon championship and was a multiple All-PSAC performer in the indoor pentathlon, outdoor decathlon and high jump events during his collegiate career.
• Jordan is also a former school record holder in the indoor pentathlon and a two time All-Academic selection in the decathlon.
 
PERSONAL
• Jordan holds a USATF Level 1 Certification and has also served as the Director of US Soccer’s Referees Fitness Program from June 2009-14 as well as the Director of the MLS Professional Referees Fitness Program from 2009-12 in addition to his coaching duties.
• Jordan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from SRU in 2005 and his master’s degree in health and physical education from Slippery Rock in 2008. He married former Slippery Rock distance runner and SRU alumna Katie (Turnbull) Jordan. The couple reside in Grove City and have two daughters.
