Ryan Lutke will enter his second season as a graduate assistant for the Slippery Rock University men’s soccer team on head coach Steve Small’s staff in 2017.
After a standout playing career for The Rock, Lutke began his coaching career as an assistant under Small prior to the beginning of the 2016 season.
In his first season as a collegiate coach, Lutke helped lead The Rock to a 5-9-2 record which included a 4-5-2 mark in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play. Slippery Rock, which was competitive in nearly all of its contests as six of The Rock’s losses came by just one goal, just missed out on qualifying for the conference tournament. However, SRU did end the year with two straight victories to head into the offseason with solid momentum.
Prior to his appointment as an SRU assistant coach, Lutke started 53 of 76 games for Slippery Rock from 2012-15. He helped lead SRU to an impressive 49-21-9 record that included four trips to the PSAC Tournament, two league championships and one NCAA Tournament berth.
Over his playing career, Lutke totaled 28 points off of 12 goals and four assists. He had a career-year as a senior in 2015, earning third team All-America, first team all-region and first team All-PSAC honors after scoring eight goals and guiding The Rock to a 14-6 record as well as a PSAC championship.
Lutke will assist with all facets of the program while working towards his master’s degree in public health. He earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Slippery Rock in 2015.
