Assistant Coach Thomas Seay

Thomas Seay

Thomas Seay enters his second season as the top assistant to Rock head coach Jeff Messer.

In addition to serving as Messer’s "right-hand man," Seay will coordinate the infield and outfield efforts, coach first base and coordinate The Rock’s recruiting efforts.

Seay joined The Rock staff in January 2008 after serving one season as an assistant coach at Louisburg College in North Carolina. His main duties for the junior-college Hurricanes were as infield and hitting instructor and recruiting assistant.

Prior to joining the Louisburg staff in the fall of 2007, Seay served two seasons at Division I Old Dominion University. He worked with the outfielders and assisted with the hitters, along with coaching first base. The Monarchs were ranked as high as 15th in the nation for the 2006 season and were the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season champions in 2007. Seay was also responsible for on-campus recruiting and recruiting correspondence.

A native of Richmond, Va., Seay began his coaching career as an assistant baseball coach with Douglas Freeman and Collegiate high schools in his hometown.

While with Douglas Freeman, Seay worked with the outfielders and hitters. At Collegiate, he was the defensive and hitting coach.

During the summers, Seay was the head coach and coordinated the hitting and pitching efforts for American Legion Post 244 team.

As a student-athlete, Seay started his college career at Christopher Newport University but eventually transferred to Randolph-Macon College.

At Randolph-Macon, Seay, was an Old Dominion Athletic Conference designated hitter. He set a school record (13) and ranked among the national leaders in doubles per game as a senior. He batted .396 and led the team in RBIs (25 in 27 games) in his final season with the NCAA Division III Yellow Jackets.

Seay graduated from Randolph-Macon in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and received an Master of Science degree in sports leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2003.
