Matt Veres

Matt Veres

Matt Veres was one of the top defenders in Slippery Rock soccer history. He competed for The Rock from 1983-86 and was a member of Jim Egli’s final four-year class which won a total of 30 games and played for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship in 1985.

Veres was named a first team Western Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Soccer Conference All-Star during all four years of his collegiate career. He also received All-PSAC recognition as a junior and senior.

Veres appeared in 66 games over his collegiate career, totaling 14 points on six goals and two assists. He scored three goals in both his junior and senior seasons. 

A native of Pittsburgh, Veres graduated from Slippery Rock in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics before embarking on a successful career in finance. Today, Veres serves as the Director of Finance for BEA Inc.

Veres has stayed involved in soccer following the end of his college career as both a coach with various youth soccer programs and as a player in several adult leagues.

Veres and his wife, Anne, reside in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania and have three children: Rebecca, Maggie and Benjamin. Rebecca is a Slippery Rock graduate, who also played for the SRU women’s soccer team for two seasons.
