Mick Lakatos

Mick Lakatos played at Slippery Rock for legendary coach Jim Egli for four seasons (1961-64). Over his collegiate career Slippery Rock put together an overall record of 18-16-7. He was the co-captain of the 1964-65 Rock squad.

The Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania native came to The Rock after a standout prep career at New Brighton High School. 

A great all-around athlete, Lakatos also competed in swimming and gymnastics while at Slippery Rock before graduating with his bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock.

After graduating from Slippery Rock Lakatos embarked on a career in education that included stops at Thomas Jefferson School District and the Delaware School District before attending East Stroudsburg University for his master’s degree. 

Following the obtainment of his master’s degree in physical education from East Stroudsburg University in 1968, Lakatos became a professor of physical education at Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan. He would hold this position for 36 years (1968-2004).

While at Macomb, Lakatos became one of the top soccer coaches in junior college history. He was in charge of the Macomb Community College program from 1968-95. Over that time he tallied an impressive record of 237-102-24. A six-time Region XII Coach of the Year, Lakatos ranks 19th all-time for wins in a career in National Junior College Athletic Association history. He also coached tennis from 1968-76 at Macomb. 

Lakatos and his wife reside in Bellaire, Michigan. They have three children: David, Daniel and Susan.
