After graduating from Downingtown High School in 1976, John Di Silvestro chose to play soccer at Slippery Rock. He starred for Slippery Rock for four seasons, leading SRU to an overall record of 40-16-13 over his career playing for legendary coach Jim Egli.
With team success came individual accolades for Di Silvestro. He was named a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference All-Star during his junior and senior seasons; he was the leading vote recipient in 1979. Additionally, he was twice named a Western Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Soccer Conference All-Star in 1978 and 1979.
Di Silvestro was just as accomplished off the field as he was on it as he was named to the dean’s list in each of his final four semesters of college before earning his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Slippery Rock in 1980.
Upon graduation, Di Silvestro spent the 36 years in management positions with various companies including Pepperidge Farm, Sara Lee Bakery, Consolidated Diesel Company, Alflex Corporation and the Air System Components. Since 2012 Di Silvestro has been the LVS production supervisor for the pharmaceutical operation Hospira Inc. in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
Professionally, Di Silvestro has received numerous awards for his hard work including the Sara Lee Corporation “Focus on Excellence Award” and the Commonwealth Industries “Professional Excellence Award” twice.
John and his wife Marcia reside in Tarboro, North Carolina and have four children: Abagail, Adam, Alexis, Aric.
Angelo Albanese, who was inducted into the Ring of Honor as a member of the inaugural class in 2011, will introduce John tonight.
