Elsenrath closed out his time at Slippery Rock with a career-year in 1963. A co-captain of a squad that went 5-4-1, Elsenrath was named the team’s MVP while also earing his aforementioned All-America honor in addition to a spot on the All Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Delaware team.
The trust and responsibility that Elsenrath carried on the soccer team also transferred off the field and throughout the college as evidenced by his appointment as the Resident Hall Director of Summit Hall for the 1963-64 academic year.
Slippery Rock was just the start of Elsenrath’s educational pursuits. He went on to earn his master’s degree from Westminster College in 1966 and a doctorate from Indiana University in 1970. His work at Indiana earned him the Distinguished Achievement Award, which recognizes contributions to education that supports the principals and goals of a liberal education.
The vast majority of Elsenrath’s professional life has been spent as a valued employee at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. From 1972-88 he became the school’s Director of Counseling. Starting in 1988 he was a full professor of psychology. He also served a three-year stint as the department’s chair, which ended in 2005. For the last 11 years, Elsenrath has held the title of professor emeritus of psychology at the institution.
