Patrick “Pat” O’Hare is a 1965 graduate of SRU. While at SRU, he was a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa, National Honorary Physical Education Fraternity, and was named P.E. Major of the Month in 1964. He was a 1959 graduate of North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, PA.
Pat received his Masters in Education from the University of Miami in 1968. While at SRU, he was a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa, National Honorary Physical Education Fraternity, and was named P.E. Major of the Month in 1964.
As a member of the varsity soccer team, he was voted as co-MVP (Most Valuable Player) that year. After graduation, he moved to Miami, Florida where he taught and formed the first high school soccer club, which became the start of varsity soccer in Miami public schools.
As a soccer coach at Miami-Dade College, he started the varsity soccer program in 1968 and in the second year, the team played for the NJCAA soccer championship and finished second in the nation with a record of 20-3. Subsequent years the O’Hare coached teams overall, were 126 wins, 43 losses and 10 ties, frequently finishing in the top of the nation’s rankings.
In 1979, Pat was awarded the FIFA ‘A’ coaching license and conducted numerous coaching courses in Florida and was instrumental in the development of numerous players who achieved professional and/or All American status.
Pat also hosted many teams including US Men’s National and Olympic Teams as well as professional teams in Miami as they trained during the winter.
Some of his honors include the State of Florida Youth Coach from 1974-76, the State of Florida Senior Coach from 1976-78, and the NJCAA Regional Coach of the Year in 1969, 70, 74, 75, 76, and 77.
Pat retired from teaching and coaching in 1981 and started Florida Corporate Realty, Inc., a commercial real estate firm that he presently oversees as President in Miami, Florida. Pat lives in Weston, Florida with his wife Cecilia and son, Evan.
