Russ Fager

Russell Fager, born in 1949 in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, graduate of Ambridge Area High School, Slippery Rock State University (previously known as), and Rider University, now resides in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. 

Upon his graduation from Slippery Rock State University, Fager made his impact on the soccer team.  He participated three out of the four years while he attended the university and started in each position he earned. From 1968-1969, as a sophomore, Fager played Mid-Fielder.  As a junior and senior, he was not only the Mid-Fielder, but also the Team Co-Captain as well.

During both his junior and senior year, Fager was named All Conference however, his senior year he was also named All Region-Honorable Mention. 

After college, he became the Assistant Soccer Coach for Rider University for four years before taking over as Head Coach for 36 years, where he won Conference Coach of the Year, State Coach of the Year twice, and Regional Coach of the Year.  With his team he appeared in three Conference Championships, two NCAA appearances, and placed in the Top 25 Teams of the NCAA two times. 

Fager also was the Director of a successful soccer camp for 29 years, was the New Jersey Olympic Development Coach for 14 years, the New Jersey Boys Olympic Development Director for three years, the New Jersey State Staff Coach for Coaching Schools and Licenses, and the New Jersey Club Coach for 23 years. 

He was a member on the Region I Soccer Staff for three years and organized as well as co-directed the first Coaching School in Ghana, Africa.

Aside from soccer, Fager was also the Assistant and Intramural Director, Assistant Athletic Trainer; Faculty in the Education and Continuing Education Departments. 

Civically, he is involved in the Lawrence Hamnetts Soccer Organization as an Advisor and is a volunteer at the Hamilton Senior Citizens Organization.

Outside of all of his activities, Fager has a wife and three daughters.  His wife Linda is a CPA, employed by Innopharma, his daughter Jennifer is a BS in Geology and employed by ERM, his daughter Corinne Ahlberg is a BS, MS in Statistics and employed by Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as a Statistician, and his daughter Amy is a senior in college majoring in Business.
