Hello ROCK Women’s Basketball Fans!
I hope you are finding a way to keep yourself warm in these frigid temperatures! I’ve always felt basketball was one of the best sports around with our indoor environment and winter season. The gym is a great place to spend your time when there’s nothing but snow and icicles outside!
Our season is cruising along! It is unreal to think that we are more than half way through our schedule already. I wanted to share some fun things we’ve had happening in our program aside from the actual games. First off, we hosted our SRU Women’s Basketball Alumni Day last Saturday, January 19 and we really enjoyed meeting and catching up with those special ladies who once donned the ROCK uniforms during their college years! In the photo you can see a few of the group who attended. Pictured are: Christen Miller, Wendy Payne, Kory Fielitz Rorabaugh, Lisa Fitzgerald, Heidi Sweigert Marshall and Jill Butler Bode.
Another exciting event that happened last weekend is that ROCK Women’s Basketball signee, Kara Houppert (currently a senior at Webster Thomas High School (NY)) surpassed the 1,000-point milestone! She scored the big bucket in the championship game of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Tournament at Our Lady of Mercy High School. She was also awarded the MVP trophy for her performances last weekend. She already holds the record for most assists and steals. She is also close to making the top 5 in blocked shots, despite being a 5-9 guard. We look forward to having Kara join us in a ROCK uniform for her collegiate career ahead!
