Short and sweet this week …
• Former Rock baseball standout
Steve Olizarowicz will be inducted into the Pocono Mountain High School Hall of Fame tonight (Sept. 21). Olizarowicz played four seasons and was a three-year starter for The Rock from 1992-95.
• Former Rock men’s soccer graduate assistant (1986-87)
Bob Winch will be inducted into the Enright (Conn.) Athletic Hall of Fame tomorrow (Sept. 22). Winch is currently in his sixth season as Head Women’s Soccer Coach at The Citadel, where he has earned back-to-back Southern Conference “Coach of the Year” honors in 2009 and 2010. He led the Bulldogs to a 12-8-1 win-loss record, a third-place finish in the regular-season SoCon standings and their first-ever conference tournament appearance in 2010. Winch has recorded 143 wins in 18 seasons as a collegiate head soccer coach. He served 12 seasons as the boss at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
And a final note, one for which I know I will take verbal abuse, but we give equal access to all sports here and the following information came to us via our daily Google Alerts:
• Former SRU women’s rugby club team member
Whitney Paronish is a wide receiver for the Toronto Triumph in the newly-formed Canadian Division of the Lingerie Football League. As a member of the Philadelphia Passion, Paronish played in both Lingerie Bowl VIII and IX (2011 and 2012). In the 2012 LFL Eastern Conference championship game, she caught a 20-yard touchdown pass to help the Passion to a 44-32 win over the Tampa Breeze. She also caught a 40-yard TD pass in Lingerie Bowl IX.
That’s all for now. Until next time …
