Hello ROCK Women’s Basketball Fans!
The academic year is in full swing and our preparation for the 2012-2013 season has begun! The beginning of a new year and season is always action packed and bursting with anxiety and we are experiencing all of that to the fullest.
I am so pleased with the group of impressive young women who make up our roster this season. We represent eight different states and each young lady brings an impressive academic and basketball resume to the mix.
We have been busy these first few weeks of classes. Actually, we started in with our activities before classes even began. Coaches and players alike volunteered at move-in weekend where we assisted new students and their families with the move-in process. Then just a few days into the semester we began our pre-season workouts. The NCAA mandates what we are allowed to do as a team and this time of year includes two hours of skill instruction on the court and six hours of strength and conditioning training each week. We have already made some big strides with each of those areas!
Other noteworthy news for our program is that former ROCK women’s basketball player, Danielle Smith (’12) recently signed a professional contract and will play the 2012-2013 season for BG74 in Germany. We are all wishing Danielle much success!
And last but not least, we have finalized our game schedule for the season ahead. We are excited about our opportunity to travel to Michigan (11/2) and Bowling Green State University (11/3) for exhibition games in preparation for our tough regular season schedule. If you’re looking for a fun road trip and opportunity to support the ROCK Women’s Basketball Team, those games would be fun to attend!
Have a great week and as always THANK YOU for your unconditional support of ROCK Women’s Basketball!
Yours In Hoops,
Tanya Longo
