Hey Rock Lax Followers,
It’s been a while!
Our team has gone through drastic changes since the last blog. We went from shoveling the turf ourselves to practice the week before spring break, and building snowmen in the process (see photo below), to sunny Myrtle Beach where we spent spring break (see photo below). It was about a 14 hour bus ride on Thursday through the night until we arrived at our beautiful beach house, Tropical Attitude, in Myrtle.
Our house was gorgeous; we had our own pool, hot tub and of course were right on the beach. There were three floors to the house; first floor was the kitchen and living room areas, second floor was bedrooms, and the third floor was bedrooms and a game room. We spent a lot of time practicing, but when we weren’t practicing we managed to get a lot of shopping done at Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing, and also got to go to Dick’s Last Resort where the servers are paid to basically be mean to you, and a Japanese Steak House. A lot of the nights we made our own dinners, which tested our cooking capabilities.
For our practices we had some themed days which included movie day, 80s day, Rock pride day, and WTH (what the heck are you wearing) day. On movie day we split into three groups: attack, midfield, and defense; and we had to pick a movie to dress up like. Attack did
Miss Congeniality, midfield did
The Hangover (which won), and defense picked
Snow White. We had to wear our outfits to practice so we got a lot of funny looks from the other teams, but they were just jealous. We even got to practice on the beach one of the days, which was amazing!
We had a scrimmage on Monday against Kings and dominated, and then had two games also over break against St. Andrews University and Converse College. We played very good against both teams and came out on top winning at St. Andrews, 19-10 and at Converse, 25-5.
Amy Halls even broke the record for most goals scored at Slippery Rock University in the St. Andrews game!
We were all sad to leave the warm sun and beach, but we had to make our departure back to Slippery Rock Saturday after our game to come back and compete against some very tough teams this week!
Stay tuned to see how our week goes on the next blog!
LET’S GO ROCK!
