Hello Rock Alumni and Friends,
As I enter my 26th year as head coach, SRU baseball is ready to challenge for 2011 PSAC honors. With the addition of 14 new recruits, a healthy pitching staff, and many seasoned veterans, 2011 looks to be very promising.
We finished our fall team practice in October and presently are training hard with individual workouts on and off the field. The players continue to work hard in the weight room three times a week. SRU baseball followed team tradition and volunteered for the annual Slippery Rock Parks & Recreation Halloween Haunted House presented for the Slippery Rock community.
The last day of fall practice culminated with a 100 inning marathon game. The successful event was sponsored by many fans, family and alumni. A special thank you to the following alumni that generously supported the event: Alfred Annunziata, Jerry Bejbl, Jack Crichfield, Edwin Cottrell, Roger Flynn, Pat Forese, Billy Gross, Mike Harich, Todd Haupt, Dick Hudson, Bob Maschmeyer, Glenn Schneider, George Spetar, Kevin Talmadge, John Wesnofski, Gregg Williams and Randall Wojdyla. Thank you, your support is greatly appreciated.
An update on recent graduates finds Billy Herman, Billy Messer, and Don Pugliese coaching college baseball. Herman joined former Rock assistant, Rich Pasquale at Youngstown State. Messer joined the University of Virginia coaching staff and Pugliese was hired as pitching coach at Thiel College.
Hopefully we will see many of you this coming spring for a home game at Jack Critchfield Park or at one of our away trips to Lakeland, Aberdeen, or Chillicothe.
Thank you and please look for future SRU Baseball Blogs.
GO ROCK!!!
