SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team earned a 4-0 victory over California (Pa.) in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament Monday at the SRU Tennis Courts.
Â
The victory, Slippery Rock's sixth in as many matches, improves SRU's record to 12-8 overall while California drops to 14-7 following the loss. Monday's win sends The Rock into the PSAC Tournament semifinals Friday against Bloomsburg University.
Â
Slippery Rock punched its ticket to the PSAC Tournament semifinals for a sixth consecutive year by capturing the doubles point and earning three victories from its singles lineup as part of The Rock's ninth shutout of the year.
Â
One of the many highlights of the day came from
Dari Sakhanova, who earned wins as part of The Rock's third doubles team and in her fifth flight match to become the 15th athlete in program history to compile 100 career victories.
Â
SRU secured the first point of the match thanks to its second and third doubles teams.
Â
Sakhanova and
Georgie Lancaster blanked Lilli Schreiber and Anika Hedrich, 6-0, from the third slot while
Amaia Balaguer Brau and
Tina Slovak captured a 6-1 victory against Garance Laforet and Maria Diletta Mungo in the second flight.
Â
Balaguer Brau and Slovak improved their personal winning streak to eight matches as the duo are now 16-3. Lancaster and Sakhanova have rattled off five wins as well to improve to 10-7 on the year.
Â
With SRU already guaranteed of the doubles point, the first flight match that featured
Nicole Kempton and
Alissia Kivi vs. Teddi Isherwood and Leandra Guldimann was halted prior to completion.
Â
Balaguer Brau followed up her doubles victory by claiming Slippery Rock's first singles point of the day courtesy of a 6-2, 6-0 win versus Isherwood from the first flight. Balaguer Brau, the 35th-ranked singles athlete in the nation and the reigning PSAC West Athlete of the Week, is now on a personal 11-match winning streak which has increased her record to 24-8.
Â
Sakhanova moved Slippery Rock closer to the postseason triumph when she defeated Schreiber 6-0, 6-1 out of the fifth flight for what was her historic 100th career win. Now at 19-9 on the year overall, Sakhanova is third for SRU in singles wins this year behind only Balaguer Brau and Kivi (20).
Â
Lancaster, Slippery Rock's lone senior, proceeded to cap off what could be her last match at the SRU Tennis Courts when she produced a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Hedrich out of the sixth flight en route to the match-clinching point. The Rock veteran has used a six-match winning streak to improve her record to a healthy 13-11.
Â
With Slippery Rock having clinched the match, the bouts in the second, third and fourth flights were all stooped. Kivi, Kempton and Slovak had all won their first set and were leading in the second at the time of the stoppage.
Â
Slippery Rock and Bloomsburg's PSAC Tournament semifinal contest is set for a 10 a.m. start Friday at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on the campus of Bloomsburg University.
