Rock earns shutout vs. Clarion

The Slippery Rock women’s tennis team moved back into the win column in convincing fashion with a 7-0 shutout victory over Clarion Tuesday in a PSAC West match from the SRU Tennis Courts.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team moved back into the win column in convincing fashion with a 7-0 shutout victory over Clarion Tuesday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division match from the SRU Tennis Courts.
 
The Rock improve to 6-7 overall and 5-3 against Division II opponents. The Rock level their conference record at 1-1 in the PSAC West after a dominant performance that included dropping just two total games in the match. Clarion drops to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in PSAC West matches.
 
Slippery Rock picked up the doubles point in quick fashion, dropping just one game between three matches. The No. 1 team of Alissia Kivi and Nicole Kempton and the No. 2 team of Amaia Balaguer Brau and Tina Slovak each picked up 6-0 wins while the No. 3 squad of Dari Sakhanova and Marika Kempinski earned a 6-1 win.
 
The No. 2 team grabbed the first win with a 6-0 shutout over Polia Vladeva and Josie Beckerleg. The No. 1 team then clinched the doubles point for SRU with a 6-0 win over Davan Lion and Stephania Juarez Murguia. The No. 3 team then completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win over Taelyn Thomas and Emily McKenna.
 
The dominance from doubles continued over to the singles matches as Slippery Rock dropped just one game combined between the six singles matches.
 
Balaguer Brau posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at the No. 1 position against Lion. Kivi earned a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 2 against Murguia and Kempton earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 against Beckerleg.
 
Slovak also posted a clean 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 against Vladeva and Sakhanova continued the trend with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 against McKenna.
 
Kempinski, who made her first appearance in the lineup since Sept. 13 against Charleston, posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Thomas at the No. 6 position to close out the sweep.
 
The 7-0 victory marked the third sweep of the season for The Rock and their first since a 7-0 win against West Virginia Wesleyan on March 21.
 
Slippery Rock will now shift its attention to a regional meeting with No. 40 Charleston Saturday at noon at the SRU Tennis Courts.
