SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 21st ranked Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team used a 6-0 run in the middle of the game to pull away for an 18-10 victory over Indiana University (Pa.) Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Rock improve to 8-1 overall and stay unbeaten at 3-0 in PSAC West games with the win. IUP slips to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in divisional play.

Slippery Rock jumped out to a 4-0 lead with 6:51 to play in the first quarter before IUP rallied with three straight goals to cut the deficit to 4-3. SRU responded with a 3-1 push to close the quarter, which included a goal from
Abby Fink with five seconds left, to lead 7-4 after one.

Indiana cut the lead to 8-6 with 3:05 to play in the first half before Slippery Rock put together the decisive run of the game. The Rock scored four goals in the final 2:11 of the second quarter, including a buzzer-beater from
Krysta Frankowski, to turn the 8-6 lead into a 12-6 advantage at the break.

SRU tacked on two more goals to open the third quarter to make it a 6-0 run and extend the lead to 14-6 with 13:33 to play in the third. IUP would get no closer than seven goals the rest of the way as The Rock closed out the 18-10 win.

Both teams finished with dead even numbers in multiple stat categories, including 25-25 in shots, 20-20 in shots on goal and 24-24 in ground balls. The Rock put up a 20-11 advantage in draw controls, but the biggest difference in the box score came between the posts, where SRU's
Lily Ventresca recorded 10 saves compared to two total saves from a trio of IUP goalies.

The Crimson Hawks were 13-of-15 on clear attempts and caused 19 of the 24 SRU turnovers while limiting The Rock to 14-of-19 on the clear. Slippery Rock finished with 13 caused turnovers, with
Leora Owings and
Paige Jenkins leading the way with four each.

Fink and
Grace Rotter paced the SRU attack with six points each with four goals and two assists.
Reagan Richeson added four goals and one assist for five points.
Isabella Buono netted two goals and Owings finished with one goal and one assist to cap the five players with multiple points.

Frankowski,
Laurelle Surette and
Ava Dossier each scored one goal and
Sydney Ulmer added one assist to round out the point scorers.

Ventresca allowed goals on the first five shots she faced, but settled in and made the difference in the game from the midpoint of the second quarter on. She finished with 10 saves and two ground balls to improve to 7-0 on the year.

IUP got five goals from Brenna Whiteside, three assists from Julia Steere and two goals and two assists from Kathryn Burke. Maddy Schramm played 50:59 in goal and allowed 11 goals while making two saves. She was subbed in and out multiple times with Mia Courtalis and Lauren Legrand combining to allow seven goals with no saves over the other 9:01.

Slippery Rock will now shift focus to the most important match of the year with a road trip to No. 15 Seton Hill Wednesday. The Rock and the Griffins are the only two ranked teams in the PSAC West and were picked to finish first and second in the PSAC West this spring. Game time from Greensburg Wednesday is set for 4 p.m.
