Rock cruises to 14-1 victory over Notre Dame

Behind 15 hits from 14 different batters, the Slippery Rock baseball team defeated Notre Dame (Ohio) 14-1 Tuesday evening at Jack Critchfield Park.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University baseball team defeated Notre Dame College (Ohio), 14-1, Tuesday evening at Jack Critchfield Park.

The non-conference victory improves The Rock's record to 25-16 on the year while the Falcons drop to 10-36 in 2024.

Tuesday's game was never in question as SRU scored runs in six of their eight trips to the plate while also taking a shutout into the eighth inning. 14 Rock batters combined for 15 hits. Every spot in Slippery Rock's batting order accounted for at least one run.

Senior second baseman Koby Bubash guided The Rock's explosive offense with four RBI thanks in part to a three-run home run which ignited SRU's big day in the first inning. The shot was his fourth of the season.

Brandon Butler (2-for-3), Gage Gillott (2-for-3), Joey Purcell (2-for-4), Michael Kitko (2-for-4) and Noah Ross (2-for-2) all produced two-hit games with Butler and Gillott each driving in two runs apiece. Both of Gillott's hits came by way of doubles.

Cam Panyko Morris reached base three times as part of a 1-for-3, one-run, one-RBI, two-walk performance that also included a stolen base.

Rounding out SRU's top hitters against Notre Dame were Darryn Callahan (1-for-1, one run), Robby Barrientos (two runs), Zack Streightif (1-for-2, one RBI), Braden Olson (1-for-2, one run, one walk) and Sam Muetzel (one RBI). Olson and Callahan earned their hits off doubles.

Slippery Rock sent six pitchers to the mound. As a collective unit, SRU limited Notre Dame to just five hits. Starter Parker Hogge (3-3) earned the win after scattering one hit and a walk over three shutout innings.

Following Hogge's solid outing, SRU finished out the game with relievers Robert Herr (1 IP), Mark Wilbur Jr. (1.1), Gino Marra (1.2), Joey Vanzin (1) and Eoin Rossman (1).

Marra struck out three batters while the duo of Vanzin and Rossman each posted a pair of strikeouts as well. Vanzin allowed Notre Dame's lone run of the game – an unearned score when SRU was ahead by 14 runs in the eighth.

Like The Rock, NDC used six pitchers in the game. Starter Johnny Anservitz was the pitcher of record for the Falcons. He allowed three runs on three hits in two innings. Tyler Shadle accounted for two of Notre Dame's hits.

Slippery Rock now turns its attention to its upcoming four-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division series against Clarion. A series split against Clarion clinches a PSAC Tournament berth for The Rock.

SRU heads to Clarion for two games Thursday before hosting the Golden Eagles for a doubleheader Friday. First pitch of game one on both days is set for 1 p.m.
