Rock rolls by Gannon, 18-6

The Slippery Rock women's lacrosse team cruised to an 18-6 win over Gannon in PSAC West action Wednesday for The Rock's third straight victory.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team cruised to an 18-6 win over Gannon University for its third straight win in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action Wednesday afternoon at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
 
The Rock improve to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in PSAC West games with the victory, while Gannon slips to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in PSAC games.
 
The story of the game was Slippery Rock's dominance in the draw circle, led by senior Charleigh Rondeau, who finished with 14 draw controls, two goals, three ground balls and three caused turnovers in an all-around stellar performance. The Rock finished the game with a 23-3 advantage in draw controls and used the lopsided possession time to outshoot Gannon 38-12.
 
SRU also limited the Golden Knights to just 13-of-23 on clear attempts while going 9-of-11 on its own clears. The Rock posted advantages of 22-21 in ground balls and 15-12 in caused turnovers.
 
Camryn Whipple scored a game-high four goals to bring her career scoring total to 108 points and move her up to No. 14 on the all-time career scoring list at SRU. Lauren Searles added three goals and one assist and Krysta Frankowski chipped in two goals and one assist.
 
Rondeau and Reagan Richeson each scored two goals and Rachel Mahoney handed out two assists to cap the multiple point scorers.
 
The Rock got one goal each from Brooke Wisniewski, Sydney Ulmer, Erin Melcher, Maddie Blazey and Shannon Von Kaenel, who netted her first career goal to round out the scoring in the fourth quarter.
 
Gillian O'Rourke earned the win in goal after playing the first 47:01 and recording four saves while allowing just three goals. Her four saves bring her to 403 career stops, making her the second goalie in SRU history to top the 400-save milestone.
 
Gannon was paced by Madyson Schwartz with two goals. Haleigh Manning recorded seven saves and allowed 11 goals in the first half. Riley Finnegan made five saves and allowed seven goals in the second half.
 
Slippery Rock will look to pick up a fourth straight win in PSAC West action when Mercyhurst visits Friday for a 4 p.m. game.
