Rock downs Gannon 15-4 on the road

The Slippery Rock women's lacrosse team got back in the win column with a convincing 15-4 win on the road at Gannon Wednesday, completing a season sweep over the Golden Knights.

ERIE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team completed a season sweep over Gannon University with a 15-4 victory on the road Wednesday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division game from McConnell Family Stadium.
 
The Rock improve to 11-3 overall and take over sole possession of second place in the PSAC West with a 7-2 record in the division. The 11 wins ties for the third-most in a single-season in program history, two behind the 2018 team that set the school record with 13 wins. Gannon dips to 4-11 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
 
Slippery Rock jumped out to a 9-2 halftime lead and was never threatened in the second half Wednesday on the way to a fifth straight win in the series against the Golden Knights. The Rock posted advantages of 28-13 in shots, 18-5 in draw controls and 27-20 in ground balls.
 
Camryn Whipple led the SRU attack with five points on two goals and three assists, bringing her season total to 36 assists and leaving her just one shy of tying the program's single-season record. She also moved up to No. 3 all-time at SRU in career assists and now has 62 helpers over the last three seasons.
 
Lauren Searles added a hat trick for her third straight game with at least three goals, bringing her just two points away from becoming the 20th player in program history to reach 100 career points.
 
Reagan Richeson also scored a hat trick, while Erin Melcher and Sydney Ulmer each scored two goals and Rachel Mahoney chipped in one goal and one assist to round out the players with multiple points. The Rock also got one goal each from Eryn Little and Brooke Wisniewski to round out the point scorers.
 
Hailey Ohlsen paced the defense with three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Gillian O'Rourke picked up her 11th win of the season in goal after recording three saves and grabbing five ground balls. She is now just three ground balls shy of tying the SRU career record of 166.
 
Gannon was led by McKenna Woodworth with two goals and one assist and Caroline Stevens with one goal and two assists. Riley Finnegan took the loss in goal after allowing seven goals and recording three saves in just under 17 minutes in goal.
 
Slippery Rock will look to continue its playoff push with a key home game Saturday against Indiana (Pa.), which trails SRU by one game in the division standings. First draw is set for noon. The Rock will honor their seven senior players in a Senior Day ceremony before the game.
