Rock downs Edinboro 22-4 for fifth straight win

Slippery Rock matched the second-best record through 11 games in program history at 9-2 and won its fifth straight game with a 22-4 victory on the road at Edinboro Wednesday.

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team won its fifth straight game and matched the second-best start in program history with a 9-2 record after picking up a convincing 22-4 victory Wednesday evening in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division game at Edinboro.
 
The Rock tie the 1989 and 2017 teams for the best record through 11 games in program history and improve to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in PSAC West action. Edinboro slips to 2-9 overall and 0-6 in divisional play.
 
The Fighting Scots scored the first goal of the game Wednesday just 1:53 into the first quarter, but Slippery Rock responded with eight straight goals and added one final tally with one second left in the quarter to take a 9-2 lead after the opening 15 minutes.
 
The Rock were never really threatened from there and finished with advantages of 47-8 in total shots, 21-8 in draw controls, 19-9 in ground balls and 11-8 in caused turnovers.
 
SRU got points from 14 different players in the game, including multiple-point efforts from 10 different players. Camryn Whipple finished with a team-high five points with five assists, which brings her career total to 54 assists and makes her just the fourth player in program history with at least 50 career assists. She now has 116 career points to move up to No. 12 all-time at SRU. Whipple was matched for the team-high in points by Krysta Frankowski with one goal and four assists.
 
Lauren Searles tallied three goals and handed out one assist and Abby Fink netted her first career hat trick with three goals. Charleigh Rondeau added two goals and one assist to go along with 12 draw controls for her third straight game with double-digit draw controls. Reagan Richeson and Brooke Wisniewski each had two goals and one assist as well.
 
Isabella Buono and Maddie Blazey both scored two goals and Ella Koslowski chipped in one goal and one assist to round out the players with multiple points. Sydney Ulmer, Erin Melcher, Brooke Walters and Shannon Von Kaenel capped the scoring with one goal each.
 
Paige Jenkins led the defense with four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Izzie Sutton made two saves in goal in the second half.
 
Edinboro got one goal and one assist from Rylee Jones and 10 saves from Addy Ours.
 
Slippery Rock's current five-game winning streak in conference play is its first five-game streak against PSAC opponents since the early stages of the 2018 season. The Rock remain tied for first place in the PSAC West and will get a week off before returning to action next Wednesday when Lock Haven visits to open the second round of divisional play.
