SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Two late goals scored by
Rasmus Fugl and
Jacob Glancy proved to be the difference as the Slippery Rock University men's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown Saturday at James Egli Field.

The Rock picked up their fourth win in five games, improving to 6-4-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. The Mountain Cats fell to 3-10-1 on the year and 0-6-1 in league play.

Prior to the match, six seniors –
Aaron Finney,
Luke Gildea,
Will Harrigan,
Arturo Pla Hernandis,
Ignacio Rullan and
Shaun Spencer.

Fugl got The Rock on the board in the 78
th minute with the assist coming from
Jack Smith, while Glancy scored on the first shot of his career by converting a corner from Spencer in the 85
th minute.

Pla Hernandis took a match-high four shots with two falling on target. Fugl, Harrigan, Spencer,
Aitor Jorde,
Aashi Pandher and
Colton Spence all tallied two shots, while Gildea, Glancy, Rullan and
Jimmy Irani each recorded one.

Adam Davies came away with the second shutout of the season and the fourth of his career, making six saves.

Slippery Rock flexed its muscles both offensively and defensively in the first half but could not secure a goal. After fending off two UPJ shots in the first nine minutes, The Rock outshot the Mountain Cats 11-0 in the 36 remaining minutes of the first half.

Pitt-Johnstown flipped the script by taking the first six shots of the second half and holding SRU to no offensive opportunities in the opening 26 minutes. Irani gave SRU its first shot of the second half in the 71
st minute.

With the Mountain Cats having taken what turned out to be their final shot of the match, Slippery Rock took advantage of an offensive frenzy that included six shots and three corner kicks between the 74
th and 78
th minutes. That surge concluded with Fugl one-timing a shot past UPJ's keeper to lift The Rock to a 1-0 lead.

Slippery Rock doubled its total on a corner kick that came seven minutes later when Glancy knocked in a corner from Spencer for a 2-0 cushion.

SRU took one last shot with 3:33 left in the match but was happy to play out the final few minutes on the way to its first shutout win since its season-opening victory at D'Youville University Sept. 5.

SRU wound up claiming statistical wins in shots (20-8), shots on goal (9-6) and corner kicks (8-1) as well. Josh Sollars led the Mountain Cats with three shots on goal, while Jacob Tichnell made seven stops for UPJ in net.

Slippery Rock will next play a pivotal PSAC West matchup 3 p.m. Oct. 30 at Lock Haven University, its final away game of the regular season.
