SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team put together another impressive showing against a nationally ranked opponent, playing No. 23 Indiana University (Pa.) to a 0-0 draw Saturday at James Egli Field.
Â
The Rock are now 5-4-4 on the year with a 5-2-3 mark inside the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division.
Â
IUP was the third nationally ranked opponent SRU had hosted in five home games and the second that had to settle for a draw against The Rock. The Crimson Hawks fell to 7-1-3 overall and 5-1-3 in PSAC West play.
Â
Leah Allman came away from the contest with her 11
th career shutout, her fifth of the season. The sophomore keeper made four saves against seven IUP shots.
Â
Slippery Rock brought a balanced offensive attack with both
Skylar Munnikhuysen and
Sophia Palermo landing two of their three shots on target.
Olivia Yoder added to the offense with one of her three shots going to goal.
Â
Both
Jaime Dermotta and
Libby Zacharyasz saw one of their two shots go on net, while
Lindsey Price and
Briona Rice each contributed a shot on goal.
Â
Slippery Rock heftily won the time of possession battle in the first half, outshooting the Crimson Hawks 11-3. The Rock also won all five corner kicks in the first half including one with five seconds left.
Â
Despite SRU's top-heavy stat line from the first half, The Rock had to defend the opening two shots of the game in the first 14 minutes of play. IUP took its third and final shot of the half in the 19
th minute and was forced to play defense until the halftime whistle, successfully fending off a scoreless SRU attack.
Â
The second half presented Slippery Rock's turn to focus on its defensive stance with shots going level at four apiece and IUP taking four of the half's six corners.
Â
Slippery Rock's best chance of the day may have come when Rice found a bit of space in the 74
th minute with her shot denied in the bottom left corner of the net by a diving save.
Â
The two sides dueled for the final 16 minutes with IUP seeing its last chance at a win rejected by an Allman save with 11 seconds remaining.
Â
Makenna Yarrow concluded her 90-minute shutout with nine saves for IUP. The Rock earned advantages in shots (15-7), shots on goal (9-4) and corner kicks (7-4) through the stalemate.
Â
Slippery Rock will next take a week off from in-game action, returning to the pitch 12 p.m. Oct. 26 against Clarion at James Egli Field for Senior Day. The Rock posted a 6-0 victory over the Golden Eagles earlier this year on the road.
