McGee scores late to grant Rock 2-1 win at SHU

Slippery Rock women’s soccer head coach Jessica Giegucz earned her 100th win with SRU after Bailey McGee scored a game-winner in the 85th minute to lift The Rock past Seton Hill 2-1 on the road Saturday.

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women's soccer head coach Jessica Giegucz earned her 100th win with SRU after Bailey McGee scored a game-winner in the 85th minute to lift The Rock past Seton Hill University 2-1 on the road Saturday.

The Rock improve to 5-3-3 on the year, a record that includes a 5-1-2 showing in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play. The Griffins, who tied SRU earlier this year in a 1-1 match, fall to 4-3-4 overall and 2-3-3 within the PSAC West.

Morgan Sarver joined McGee in goalscoring, putting The Rock on the board early on in the second half (47') before SHU equalized in the 72nd minute. After assisting Sarver's goal, McGee scored herself with 5:58 remaining to come away with three points on a goal and an assist. Skylar Munnikhuysen also earned an assist for SRU.

McGee also led Slippery Rock with four shots, two of which were on target. Munnikhuysen put two of her three shots on goal, with Maddie DeLucio and Sophia Palermo landing both of their respective shots on frame.

Both Sarver and Olivia Yoder saw one of their two shots go on net with Libby Zacharyasz adding two shots on the day as well. Lindsey Price rounded out the eight different SRU players with shots with one attempt on goal.

Leah Allman made two saves, facing 10 shots through the 90 minutes.

The Rock held the Griffins to a 0-0 first half while leading in shots, 8-7. Slippery Rock also took a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal into the halftime break despite SRU's last first-half shot on goal coming off the foot of Price in the 29th minute.

SRU converted a corner kick to go up 1-0 just 1:36 into the second half when Sarver scored from McGee's set piece. Sarver nearly made it a two-goal lead five minutes later but saw her shot after a corner kick blocked by Seton Hill's defense.

Slippery Rock took the next two shots after that sequence but saw its lead vanish on a Seton Hill equalizer from Samantha Hallo in the 72nd minute.

The Rock responded persistently by taking six of the game's next seven shots including McGee's 85th-minute game winner that came on an assist from Munnikhuysen.

Slippery Rock's defense broke up the Griffins' last attempt of the day when Abby Myers fired a shot into traffic with 4:22 left in the game. The Rock were able to burn the rest of the clock and win an 89th-minute corner to see out the 2-1 victory.

SRU wound up earning leads in shots (18-10), shots on goal (11-3) and corner kicks (7-3) throughout the afternoon. Corynna Rotoli and Mayah Soliszewska-Dengu led the Griffins with two shots apiece. Sydney Caldwell made nine saves in net for SHU.

Slippery Rock will return home 4 p.m. Oct. 16 to play its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game against Pitt-Johnstown. The Rock defeated the Mountain Cats 3-0 earlier this year on the road.
