The Slippery Rock men’s soccer team scored a trio of goals within 11 minutes to solidify a 3-2 win over Pitt-Johnstown Saturday at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team scored a trio of goals within 11 minutes to solidify a 3-2 win over Pitt-Johnstown Saturday at James Egli Field.

The Rock's win improves their overall record to 2-3-3 while moving to 1-1 within the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. UPJ fell to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC West.

Slippery Rock's scoring came from Arturo Pla Hernandis, Ignacio Rullan and Aitor Jorde, with assists coming from Luke Gildea, Gabin Lonjard and Joe Skillicorn.

Jorde tallied four total shots, placing one on net, while Pla Hernandis put all three of his attempts on target. Rullan registered two shots, while five players chipped in with one shot: Gildea, Topher Garcia, Will Harrigan, Chris Mitchell and Nate Stalter.

Adam Davies stood strong in net for Slippery Rock with five saves, picking up his third career win.

UPJ's Anson Portzline got on the board with his team's first shot of the match in the seventh minute. Portzline picked up a misjudged pass from Slippery Rock's backline, finding himself one-on-one with Davies and sneaking it past for the goal.

SRU answered in the 20th minute with Pla Hernandis' fifth goal of the season, coming on a pass from Gildea.

Rullan doubled the lead just 1:28 later, breaking away from the midfield and firing a torpedo of a shot from outside the box.

Slippery Rock's domination on the attack continued with Aitor Jorde receiving a pair of headers from Lonjard and Skillicorn at the edge of the goal, tapping in a third goal for The Rock in the 31st minute.

By halftime, Slippery Rock led in shots (9-3) and corners (4-1).

The Mountain Cats were able to muster a pair of shots in the first dozen minutes of the second frame, but Davies made two solid saves to keep a 3-1 lead for The Rock. That continued until the 87th minute when Dillon Trimble netted his first career goal for UPJ.

An 89th minute corner for Pitt-Johnstown posed a late threat, but Slippery Rock's defense was able to clear it out to the sideline, leaving the Mountain Cats with insufficient time to find the equalizer.

The Rock led in total shots (14-7) and corner kicks (9-5), despite all seven of UPJ's shots being placed on target. Slippery rock put 50 percent of its shots on net, with seven shots on goal.

Slippery Rock will look for consecutive wins for the first time this season 1 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to PSAC East member Shepherd University in a non-conference game.
