Box Score

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University baseball team fell 13-7 in a single 9-inning game Tuesday on the road at Ashland University in non-conference action from the Archer Complex.

The loss gives SRU a season split against Ashland after The Rock took a 9-inning game at home earlier this spring. Ashland improves to 29-13 overall with the victory, while SRU slips to 18-22.

The Rock opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the second inning with RBI singles from Colin Cain and Joey Purcell scoring Noah Ross and Jon Kozarian, but the lead wouldn't survive the bottom of the second. Ashland plated three runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 3-2 lead to the third.

The Eagles added one more in the third inning to lead 4-2, but Slippery Rock answered with three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead. Those runs came via Joseph Ehland and Cam Panyko Morris both walking with the bases loaded to pick up RBIs the easy way before Luke Trueman hit an RBI single to score Purcell for the fifth run of the game.

The lead didn't survive the whole inning again as Ashland answered right back with three runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth. The Eagles then plated three more in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 13-6 lead heading to the eighth inning.

Slippery Rock scored one run in the fifth with an RBI double from Ross and got one back in the eighth with an RBI single from Alex Robenolt to account for the final run.

Trueman, Robenolt, Ross, Purcell and Kozarian all finished with two hits in the game and Ross and Kozarian each plated two runs. Both of Ross' hits were doubles and Purcell and Robenolt each had a double as well.

Robert Herr took the loss on the mound after throwing 3.0 innings and allowing seven earned runs. Mark Wilbur came on in relief and pitched 3.0 innings, allowing four earned runs with one strikeout. Jake Norris closed out the last 2.0 innings, allowing two unearned runs and striking out one.

Slippery Rock finished with seven runs on 12 hits and committed two errors in the field. The Rock left 12 men on base.

Ashland scored 13 runs on 14 hits and committed no errors while stranding seven men on base. Cam Miller, Seth Schroeder and Devin Hukill each finished with two RBI to lead the Eagles at the plate.

Slippery Rock will look to bounce back with another non-conference 9-inning game on deck Wednesday when West Liberty visits Jack Critchfield Park for a 3 p.m. start.
