WEXFORD, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team lost to 20th-ranked University of Charleston, 5-2, Saturday at the PA Tennis Academy in Wexford, Pennsylvania.

The non-conference loss moves The Rock's record to 6-6 overall while the nationally ranked Golden Eagles improve to 13-1 in 2022-23 following the win.

For just the third time this season, Slippery Rock did not pick up the team doubles point as Charleston swept all three flights to open Saturday's contest.

The first result of the match came at No. 2 doubles where Alyssa Cameron and Prinkle Singh defeated
Gabriela del Val del Toro and
Nuria Martin Lopez, 6-1.

Charleston then secured the doubles point by way of a 6-3 win in third flight from Harriet Glaves and Barbara Balancho over
Tina Slovak and
Dari Sakhanova.

While it ultimately had no bearing in the overall match score, Filippa Larsson and Sofiia Karsikova were also able to narrowly edge The Rock's top doubles pairing of
Teddi Isherwood and
Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez via a 7-5 decision.

SRU began the singles portion of the competition on a high note as del Val del Toro downed Karsikova with a 6-3, 6-2 win out of the second flight to pull The Rock even with the Golden Eagles at 1-1. del Val del Toro has now won nine of her last 10 singles bouts to push her record to 19-5 on the year.

However, Slippery Rock's hopes for a victory were dashed when Charleston took the next three matches from the first, fifth and sixth flights to clinch the team win.

Singh, the 12th-ranked singles player in the latest batch Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II rankings, recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win against Gonzalez Sanchez in the top flight followed by respective wins from Riva Hondiashvilli over Slovak and Balancho against
Georgie Lancaster (6-4, 6-2) from the fifth and sixth flights.

The final two bouts of the day to finish featured Martin Lopez earning a 6-2, 7-5 win against Cameron in the fourth flight and Sakhanova suffering a narrow three-set loss versus Larsson in third-flight action. Martin Lopez's win improves her record to a solid 13-10 so far this season.

Slippery Rock continues non-conference competition Sunday when it hosts Atlantic Region foe West Virginia State for a 1 p.m. match at the SRU Tennis Courts.
