ORLANDO, Fla. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team earned a 4-3 non-conference victory Tuesday against Texas A&M Kingsville at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida

SRU has now won four straight matches to improve its record in 2022-23 to 4-2 overall while Texas A&M Kingsville drops to 5-5 following the loss.

Tuesday's contest came down to the final match as Slippery Rock captured the all-important doubles point before winning three singles bouts to keep its winning streak alive. Dari Sakhanova had a hand in two points for The Rock Tuesday by way of a doubles win with Tina Slovak and a match-deciding singles victory.

The Rock and Javelinas split the opening two doubles contests of the day with SRU's top-flight pairing of Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez and Teddi Isherwood defeating Milou ter Morsche and Alessa Maier, 6-2, before Raina Zaffar and Manuela Turolo produced a 6-2 win of their own against Nuria Martin Lopez and Gabriela del Val del Toro at No. 2 doubles.

Following the split, the team doubles point was left to be decided in the third flight between four freshmen with Slovak and Sakhanova besting Sterre Fleur Moerdijk and Annika Andersson Gomez, 6-4. Sakhanova and Slovak are now a perfect 4-0 as a team this season.

Texas A&M Kingsville overcame the doubles loss by winning with the opening two singles matches of the contest. Maier registered a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the first flight against Gonzalez Sanchez while Gomez rallied to beat Isherwood 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 in the fifth flight.

The Javelinas' lead would be short-lived thanks to respective wins by del Val del Toro and Georgie Lancaster in the second and sixth flights.

del Val del Toro first made it a 2-2 match courtesy of a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Zaffar with Lancaster then defeating Arantza Armas Ugas 6-3, 6-4.

However, West Texas A&M was once again able to tie the match when Morsche earned a close 6-4, 6-4 victory from the fourth flight over Martin Lopez. With just one flight yet to be decided, SRU and WTAM were tied 3-3.

In the final bout of the day, Sakhanova closed out the win for The Rock from the third flight with a 6-2, 7-6 (2) victory against Turolo. Sakhanova has won her last four singles contests.

Slippery Rock continues its Florida trip with 1:30 p.m. Wednesday match against Dallas Baptist University at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.
