GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team saw its 2023 campaign come to a close, dropping a 4-2 decision at Seton Hill University Friday.

Slippery Rock, which needed to win or draw the match in order to advance to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament, finishes the year with a record of 5-8-4 overall and 4-6 within the PSAC West. The Griffins, who clinched the final playoff spot in the PSAC West, move to 5-11-1 overall and 4-5-1 in conference play.

Aitor Jorde and
Arturo Pla Hernandis, who have led the team offensively all year, notched the two goals for The Rock. Jorde led SRU with five shots, while Pla Hernandis placed both of his shots on target.

Ryan Hanes picked up the first assist of his career, while
Jeroen Van Der Veen added his third assist on the year.

Adam Davies totaled five saves on the day, all coming in the first half. The junior faced 15 shots in net.

The Griffins got off to a hot start, scoring just 3:53 into the match by settling a throw in and launching the ball toward the net from 25 yards out.

Jorde would find SRU its lone equalizer of the day in the 25
th minute, heading in a Van Der Veen cross that was set up by Hanes. With the goal, Jorde finishes the season with a team-high 22 points coming on 10 goals and two assists.

Despite the tying goal, Slippery Rock went into halftime trailing in shots, 10-6.

The Seton Hill offense broke open just 3:09 into the second frame of action, scoring on a nifty give and go. The Griffins extended their lead to 4-1 by scoring again in the 75
th and 82
nd minutes of play.

Slippery Rock, looking for its first shot on goal of the second half, found a glimmer of hope in the 86
th minute by being awarded a penalty kick. Pla Hernandis buried it, scoring his career-high ninth goal of the season, the second of which came from the penalty spot.

The Rock failed to find another offensive opportunity, winding up with a 4-2 loss. In total, Seton Hill led in shots (15-12) and shots on goal (9-3). Both teams took six corners in the contest.
