Rock loses at Seton Hill, 76-58

The Slippery Rock women’s basketball team suffered its fourth consecutive loss in a 76-58 decision at Seton Hill Wednesday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team suffered its fourth consecutive loss in a 76-58 decision at Seton Hill University Wednesday.
 
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division defeat moves SRU's record to 8-6 overall and 3-5 in the league while the win improves SHU's record to 11-6 overall and 4-4 in the division.
 
Isabellah Middleton led The Rock with her seventh 20-point game of the season as she went for 20 points, six rebounds and two steals. Middleton is now tied for eighth in program history since 2002-03 in career 20-point games.
 
in her first start since Nov. 27, Deleah Gibson totaled 13 points and two steals to go along with season-high's of six rebounds and four assists. Gibson shot 50 percent (3-of-6) from 3-point range and now ranks 25th in program history for 3-pointers made in a career with 54.
 
Jada Ward came off the bench to provide The Rock with quality minutes as she went for six points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Bella Long tallied an identical six points in addition to two rebounds and one assist.
 
In her first career start, Jordan Kauffman ended the night with career-highs of five points and five rebounds.
 
Rounding out Slippery Rock's leaders was Kennedy Middleton (4 points, 5 rebounds), Kaylin Venick (4 points) and Kelley McKnight (5 rebounds).
 
After SRU ended the first quarter trailing Seton Hill 20-15, The Rock responded from the early deficit by outscoring the Griffins 19-12 over the second quarter to take narrow a two-point lead at 34-32 heading into the halftime break.
 
Slippery Rock's first half comeback could be attributed to a 4-of-7 showing from 3-point range accompanied by committing just nine turnovers all the while forcing Seton Hill into 12 miscues of its own over the first 20 minutes of play.
 
The Rock struggled to find their rhythm coming out of the break. With Kennedy Middleton sidelined for much of the period due to foul trouble, SRU scored just nine points over the entirety of the third quarter as the Griffins re-took the advantage and eventually stretched their lead to nine points entering the final 10 minutes of action.
 
Any thoughts of a Rock comeback were put to rest in the fourth quarter when Seton Hill utilized a 19-4 run to extend its lead to as many as 23 points with 2:25 left to play before securing a 76-58 Griffins victory.
 
For the game, Slippery Rock shot 35.4 percent (23-of-65) from the field overall, 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from 3-point range and 45.5 percent (5-of-11) at the foul line.
 
Seton Hill finished the contest shooting 46.9 percent (30-of-64) from the floor, 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from long range and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the charity stripe. The Griffins out rebounded The Rock 44-37 while committing 21 turnovers and forcing SRU into 23 miscues of its own.
 
SHU was led by Christiane Frye with 23 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
 
The Rock finishes their two-game road trip when they travel to Mercyhurst University 1 p.m. Saturday.
