Rock and Seton Hill finish in scoreless tie

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team played PSAC West opponent Seton Hill to a scoreless draw Saturday at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team played Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opponent Seton Hill University to a scoreless draw Saturday at James Egli Field.

The tie moves SRU's overall record to 1-1-2 and 0-1-1 in the PSAC West while Seton Hill's record becomes 3-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the division.

The Rock's offensive efforts were led by Kylee Kosek with two shots, landing one on target. Aiding in the offense was Kayla Swope, Jaime Dermotta and Olivia Yoder all with one shot on goal apiece, as well as Brooke Riefenstahl and Nina King with one shot attempt each.

Emma Yoder earned her second shutout of the season while making five saves over 90 minutes to preserve the tie.

The Griffins offense made a heavy attack in the opening half, taking six of their eight shots over the first 45 minutes of play. However, The Rock successfully defended each attempt en route to a 0-0 draw to enter halftime.

Coming out of the break, the first of Slippery Rock's two solid chances to secure the game's lone goal came, when Kosek narrowly missed a goal as she landed a shot off the crossbar with 25 minutes left in the second half.

In the final minutes of the second half Morgan Sarver nearly gave SRU the lead in the 72nd minute when she netted a shot past Griffin goalkeeper Lindsey Pazdziorko, but the goal was taken back due to an offsides call.

The back-and-forth action continued into the dwindling moments of the contes. SRU took a shot in the closing 10 minutes of competition, an attempt by Kosek that was rounded up by Pazdziorko to close out the tie.

For the match, Seton Hill held advantages over The Rock in total shots (8-7) and shots on goal (5-4) while SRU led in corner kicks (6-3).

Slippery Rock continues PSAC West action when it hosts Indiana University (Pa.) 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at James Egli Field for its Suicide Awareness Game.
