Rock loses at Lindenwood, 5-2

The Slippery Rock field hockey team opened its two-game road trip in Missouri with a 5-2 loss at Lindenwood Saturday.

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team opened its two-game road trip in Missouri with a 5-2 loss at Lindenwood University Saturday.
 
The non-conference loss moves The Rock's record to 3-3 on the year overall while Lindenwood improves to 3-3 in 2022 following the win.
 
Slippery Rock was led in the game by Nadia Irving who scored one goal while assisting on SRU's other score. The goal marked Irving's first of the season and second of her career.
 
Gianna Conti also scored a goal, her second of the season, with Leslie Colliver posting her third assist of 2022 as well.
 
Erin Roland paced The Rock's shot efforts with a team-high four attempts. Kayla Del Vecchio recorded a pair of attempts as well while Conti, Irving, Colliver, Addy Ross and Bailee Christman all tallied one shot each.
 
Goalkeeper Grace Burker made nine saves in the loss.
 
Slippery Rock took a first-quarter lead when Conti finished a goal setup by Irving nine minutes into the first quarter to give SRU the early 1-0 lead.
 
However, the Lions proceeded to score five consecutive goals over the remainder of the game with two scores in the second quarter followed by another in the third and an additional two goals in the fourth before Irving snapped LU's streak with a goal on a Colliver assist on the way to the 5-2 final.
 
For the game, Lindenwood held advantages over Slippery Rock in total shots (28-11), shots on goal (15-5) and penalty corners (10-8). Pauline Terwindt scored two goals for the Lions.
 
Slippery Rock closes out its weekend 12 p.m. (11 a.m. cst) Sunday at Maryville University.
