GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team's 2022 season came to an end with a 4-0 loss to Indiana University (Pa.) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday at the Greensburg Racquet Club in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Slippery Rock concludes its season with an impressive overall record of 16-8 for the program's 17th winning season in the last 24 years under 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Coach of the Year Matt Meredith. This year's NCAA Tournament berth marked the 13th appearance in the national tournament for SRU in the last 16 years.

All seven members of The Rock's roster finished with a winning percentage of at least .500 in singles matches with two athletes - Gabriela del Val del Toro (26) and Teddi Isherwood (22) - eclipsing the 20-win plateau. del Val del Toro, Lois Page and Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez each earned All-PSAC West honors as singles competitors.

Additionally, SRU's three primary doubles pairings all had winning records as Zoe Heed and Georgie Lancaster went 16-3 while Lois Page and Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez sporting a 20-11 mark with Isherwood and del Val del Toro going 14-10. For their efforts, Page and Gonzalez Sanchez were a first team all-conference doubles team.

The Crimson Hawks recorded their first win of the match when Karolin Kirchtag and Katy Graydon earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles over del Val del Toro and Isherwood.

While The Rock's first and third flight teams battled back from early deficits, IUP was able to eventually clinch the doubles point when Lydia Vlachou and Laura Dunarova narrowly edged Heed and Lancaster, 6-4.

The top doubles match between Page / Gonzalez Sanchez and Natasha Munday / Joanna Stralka was halted once Indiana clinched the doubles point with The Rock's first-flight pairing leading 6-5.

IUP the proceeded to win three straight singles contests to secure the shutout victory as Vlachou defeated Isherwood in the fifth flight (6-2, 6-2) followed by Kirchtag besting Page from the first flight (6-1, 6-3) and Stralka earning a 6-3, 6-3 win in the second flight over Gonzalez Sanchez.

Contests from the third, fourth and sixth flights were all stopped once Indiana clinched the victory with its third singles win. As such, del Val del Toro ends her season on an impressive 12-match winning streak.

With the win, Indiana, which entered the match as the top-seeded team in the Atlantic Region, improves to 18-7 on the year and will now advance to the third round of the NCAA Tournament May 17 in Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Slippery Rock figures to be a force in the Atlantic Region once again next year as SRU returns all but one member of the 2021-22 team – Page leaves The Rock as the program's seventh winningest athlete all-time with 126 victories.
