2021-22 All-PSAC Teams

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Matt Meredith was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Coach of the Year while Slippery Rock University women's tennis standouts Lois Page, Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez and Gabriela del Val del Toro earned all-conference honors as the league office announced with the unveiling of its year-end awards Friday.

Page and Gonzalez Sanchez earned first team All-PSAC West honors both as singles competitors and as a doubles team while del Val del Toro was a second team singles all-conference honoree.

Friday's announcement marks the seventh time in Meredith's career in which he has been named the PSAC or PSAC West Coach of the Year. Only Pablo Montana, who won eight PSAC Coach of the Year awards while at California (Pa.) has been named the league's top coach more than Meredith over the league's history.

Meredith has guided Slippery Rock to a 16-7 record this season that includes a near perfect 5-1 mark in PSAC contests. SRU advanced to the championship match of the PSAC Tournament and recently defeated West Liberty in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

One of the winningest coaches in Division II women's tennis history, Meredith has put together a career record of 346-196. Since taking over the program in 1998-99, he has led SRU to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Page is now a six-time all-conference selection. Gonzalez Sanchez earned the third and fourth All-PSAC West honors of her career while del Val del Toro has been named a second team All-PSAC West singles performer in each of the last two seasons following Friday's announcement.

The Rock's lone senior, Page compiled a 19-13 overall record in singles competition this year. Included in the record is a 4-2 PSAC West mark and a 12-10 showing in first flight bouts. A former All-American, Page has totaled 125 total victories over her career, the seventh-most in program history.

Gonzalez Sanchez followed the 2020-21 season, in which she was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year, up by posting another solid showing this year. She was a near perfect 5-1 in PSAC contests this year while competing out of SRU's second singles flight on the way to tallying a 15-13 overall record that includes a 13-7 showing against fellow Division II competition.

As a team, Page and Gonzalez Sanchez combined to form one of the best pairings in the entire Atlantic Region as evidenced by their 19-11 record. The duo went 5-1 inside the PSAC and were 15-7 in first flight matches. Of their 11 losses, only six came against other Division II teams.

del Val del Toro has enjoyed one of the best seasons by an SRU athlete over the program's long and storied history. In addition to going a perfect 6-0 in PSAC West matches this year, she went 25-6 overall and was 17-3 in third flight competition. Her 25 wins represent the fifth highest single-season win total in program history. del Val del Toro is currently on an 11-match winning streak.

Elsewhere around the league, Indiana's Karolin Kirchtag was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year while Kayla Dean of Mercyhurst earned PSAC West Freshman of the Year honors.

Slippery Rock is back in action 1:30 p.m. Saturday when it faces Indiana in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the Maple Street Tennis Courts in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
