Rock set for matches vs. Goldey-Beacom and West Chester

The Slippery Rock women’s tennis team will step out of PSAC West competition this weekend with matches Saturday against Goldey-Beacom and Sunday versus West Chester.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team will step out of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division competition this weekend with matches Saturday against Goldey-Beacom and Sunday versus West Chester.
 
Slippery Rock will host Goldey-Beacom at the PA Tennis Academy 3 p.m. Saturday. The Rock will then meet West Chester at the Oxford Athletic Club 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Both facilities are located in Wexford, Pennsylvania. 
 
INAUGURAL WARRIER FAMILY PARAMESWAR KRISHNAKUMAR SCHOLARSHIP
Slippery Rock is proud to announce the presentation the inaugural Warrier Family Parameswar Krishnakumar Tennis Scholarship. Presented in honor of Parameswar "KK" Krishnakumar, a former Slippery Rock professor and supporter of women's tennis. The first recipients of scholarship will be Teddi Isherwood and Georgie Lancaster. A formal presentation of the scholarship will be held at a later date.

RECORDS / LAST TIME OUT
• Slippery Rock maintained its perfect PSAC West record, and improved to 7-5 on the year overall, following a 7-0 shutout victory earlier in the week against Edinboro.
 
• Goldey-Beacom has lost two straight games, including a 5-2 loss against Southern New Hampshire on April 2, to drop its overall record to 5-5.
 
• West Chester will bring a 6-5 record into its Saturday match at Lock Haven. WCU is coming off of a 7-0 PSAC East victory against Shippensburg.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
• The Rock and Goldey-Beacom have met just four times with the Lightning owning a 3-1 record in the series. SRU and GBC last played in 2019 with Goldey-Beacom earning a 5-2 win.
 
• Lois Page is the only active Rock athlete to have competed against Goldey-Beacom. She went 1-1 in the 2019 contest with a loss at third singles and a win at No. 1 doubles with Viola Lugmayr.
 
• Slippery Rock has traditionally controlled its series against West Chester as SRU is 16-3 all-time against the Golden Rams. Overall, The Rock has taken seven of the last eight matches in the series.  
 
• Page is 4-0 in singles matches against West Chester athletes all-time with three of wins coming against active Golden Rams Davica Massaro, Tori Alexander and Alyssa Skulsky. Page and Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez also teamed up to beat Alexander and Elaina Lee in the second round of the ITA Atlantic Region championships earlier in the year.
 
• Other Rock athletes with wins against their WCU counterparts this year include Nuria Martin Lopez and Gabriela del Val del Toro. Martin Lopez bested Alexander at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships while del Val del Toro beat Lee in the second round of the PSAC Championships.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
• All three of The Rock's primary doubles teams enter the weekend with winning records. Zoe Heed and Georgie Lancaster carry a five-match winning streak and a 6-1 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in third flight competition.
 
• Teddi Isherwood and Gabriela del Val del Toro are 8-7 as a team and 4-4 from the second flight while The Rock's top team of Lois Page and Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez are 10-10 overall and 6-6 out of the first flight.
 
• Four different Rock athletes have amassed at least 11 wins this year led by del Val del Toro who is 16-6 overall and 8-3 from the third flight. She is 8-2 in her last 10 matches.
 
• Isheerwood has had an outstanding freshman campaign with 15 wins in her first 19 collegiate matches. Isherwood, who is 9-1 in her last 10 contests overall, is 9-2 from the fifth flight this year.
 
• Page anchors The Rock's lineup from the top singles flight. In addition to being 7-5 in first flight matches, Page is 14-8 overall.
 
• Page currently ranks 10th in program history for wins in a career (singles+doubles) with 111. She is in the cusp of moving up multiple spots as Janelle Krantz (No. 9 / 2009-13 / 112), Lauren Coggins (No. 8 / 2010-14 / 115) and Sarah Lynch (No. 7 2009-12 / 116) are all within striking distance.
 
• Nuria Martin Lopez has won five straight matches to push her record to 11-8 overall on the season and 7-4 in fourth-flight outings.
 
• Rounding out Slippery Rock's standard singles lineup is Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez in the second flight and Zoe Heed in the sixth slot. Heed is 7-4 overall while Gonzalez Sanchez is 8-11 and 3-2 in her past five matches.

SCOUTING THE LIGHTNING
• Goldey-Beacom's singles lineup has remained largely consistent this season with Salome Lang (4-4) competing out of the top flight followed by Kristin Radeke (4-6), Imane Van Veen (4-2), Andrea Fresneda (8-2), Maria Bruno (4-5) and Macy Hendin-Walker (6-3).
 
• The doubles portion of GBC's lineup typically features Bruno and Lang (3-5) in the first flight followed by Fresneda / Radeke (5-5) and Anderson / Hendin-Walker (6-1) at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS
• Much like The Rock and Lightning, West Chester's lineup has also largely remained the same in dual matches this year. Alexander is 5-5 from the first flight with Massaro (5-4), Lee (6-5), Yuno Oe (5-3), Gabriella Lerario (6-3) and Skulsky (9-2) falling in place behind her.
 
• Alexander and Massaro make up West Chester's top doubles pairing with a 6-3 record so far in 2021-22. Lee / Lerario (7-3) and Skulsky / Oe (7-1) are WCU's second and third doubles teams.
 
UP NEXT
Slippery Rock returns to PSAC West competition with three matches in consecutive days when it hosts Mercyhurst April 13 before taking to the road for contests on April 14 at Indiana (Pa.) and April 15 against Seton Hill.
