SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team saw a six-goal second half lead erased as Indiana University (Pa.) rallied for a 12-11 win in the season finale Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Crimson Hawks, which entered the game receiving votes in the latest national poll, outscored SRU 9-2 in the final 20 minutes of the game to storm back from a 9-3 deficit and post a 12-11 win to improve to 12-5 overall and 9-3 in PSAC West games. It marked the fourth time this spring IUP posted a one-goal win in a PSAC West game. Slippery Rock, which dropped a third one-goal game in PSAC play, finished the year with a 10-7 overall record and a 6-6 mark in PSAC West games.

The Rock jumped out to 5-1 lead in the first quarter and led 8-3 at halftime after outshooting the Crimson Hawks 20-9 over the first 30 minutes. Camryn Whipple scored to put SRU up 9-3 with 6:27 to play in the third quarter before things fell apart for the hosts.

Indiana scored three goals in the final five minutes of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 9-6 heading to the final period. Emily Benham stopped that run and put The Rock back up 10-6 with 13:07 to play, but the visitors responded with a 6-0 run over a stretch of 10:04 to storm back and take a 12-10 lead.

Slippery Rock cut the deficit to one again with a goal from Eryn Little with 1:38 to play and then won the final draw control, but could not find the tying goal as Benham's shot was blocked before reaching the goalie.

The Rock finished the game with advantages of 31-25 in total shots and 16-11 in draw controls. Both teams were credited with 21 ground balls.

Jamie DiCarlo finished with a team-high five points on one goal and four assists to lead SRU. Benham added three goals and one assist and Little and Katie Dlugosz each scored two goals. Brooke Wisniewski, Rachel Mahoney and Whipple each scored one goal to cap the scorers.

Taylor Baiers led the defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Gillian O'Rourke made 10 saves in goal to finish the year with a 10-7 record between the posts.

Indiana got five goals and one assist from Sarah Reustle and one goal and four assists from Jordan Kulp. Ashley Andrikanich made 13 saves in the win.

Saturday also marked Senior Day for Slippery Rock, with The Rock celebrating seven seniors in a pregame ceremony. Baiers, Benham, DiCarlo, Dlugosz, Cam Brady, Molly Buettner and Emily Mox were recognized for their contributions to the program.

Buettner, Benham and Dlugosz all made their 50th career appearance Saturday.

Benham finishes her senior year as the SRU single-season record holder in both points (88) and assists (37). She tallied 51 goals in 2022 to become the fifth player in program history to top 50 goals in a season and the first since Erin Wilcox accomplished the feat for the second straight season in 2016. Benham posted 166 total points in her career to rank fifth all-time at SRU. Her 63 career assists rank No. 2 at The Rock.

DiCarlo and Dlugosz both had career-highs in scoring this spring and both topped the 100-career point milestone. DiCarlo's 63 points in 2022 rank eighth on the single-season ledger at SRU, while Dlugosz' 56 points are tied for 11th in single-season history at The Rock. Baiers posted a career-high 34 caused turnovers to lead the SRU defense in 2022, a number that ranks tied for seventh in single-season history.

The Rock's senior class finish their careers having combined for 267 games played and 176 games started. The group scored 298 goals and handed out 153 assists for 451 points, while grabbing 238 ground balls, 137 caused turnovers and 103 draw controls.

Slippery Rock's 10-7 overall record included three one-goal losses and five losses by three or fewer goals. The 10-win season is the first at SRU since 2018 and just the sixth in program history.
