SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Â The No. 20 Slippery Rock University baseball team pushed its winning streak to 10 games with a 17-9 non-conference victory over Lock Haven University Tuesday at Jack Critchfield Park.
Â
With the win, Slippery Rock improves its record to 28-9 overall. SRU's current winning streak is its second of at least 10 games this season – The Rock also opened the year with 11 straight wins. Across Division II, only Illinois Springfield (15), St. Cloud State (13) and Southern New Hampshire (11) hold longer active winning streaks.Â
Â
With a minimum of 10 games left this season, SRU's 28 wins already represent the program's fourth highest single-season win total over the last 13 years.
Â
Slippery Rock also produced its 12th double-digit run output of the season in Tuesday's win thanks in no small part to 18 hits, its second-highest total of 2021. Nine of SRU's hits against the Bald Eagles went for extra bases in the form of four doubles, four home runs and one home run. Â Â
Tuesday's game was never in question as Slippery Rock scored 11 consecutive runs over the opening four innings combined with a pair of three-run frames late to give itself a comfortable cushion that was able to withstand a late Lock Haven rally en route to the eventual eight-run victory.
Â
Alex Robenolt paced The Rock's efforts at the plate, going 4-for-5 with five runs scored, two home runs and three RBI. Robenolt, who finished a single shy of hitting for the cycle Tuesday, now leads The Rock with 45 RBI through 37 games in addition to ranking second on the team in home runs at 10. Â
Â
Koby Bubash went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one home run and four RBI. Bubash has now driven in five runs with two home runs over his last three games.
Luke Trueman also displayed his power with a home run, his sixth of the year, as part of a 2-for-4, two-run, two-RBI day.
Â
Joel Spishock,
Eddie Morris and
Connor Hamilton all produced two-hit games as well with Spishock compiling two RBI and Hamilton scoring three times as well as walking twice.
Â
Rounding out The Rock's leaders at the plate with one hit apiece were
Abraham Mow,
Noah Ross,
Braden Olson and
Evan Knaus. Ross' hit drove in two runs in what was the first multi-RBI game of his collegiate career.
Â
Slippery Rock used six pitchers in the victory.
Eoin Rossman (1-1) earned his first collegiate win after scattering four hits and a walk over three shutout winnings.
Robert Herr came on for Rossman in the fourth and proceeded to strikeout three batters over two innings of solid work out of the bullpen.
Â
The quartet of
Tanner Esposito,
Colby Anderson,
Christian Seelhorst and
Drew Delaney closed out the contest for SRU with one inning pitched each. Seelhorst was the most effective of the group with two strikeouts and no runs allowed.
Â
Aedan Walter (0-5) took the loss for Lock Haven after allowing eight runs over 2.2 innings. Leadoff hitter Gavin Troutman went 4-for-6 while Zach Kaetz had three RBI for the Bald Eagles.
Â
Slippery Rock now turns its attention to its upcoming four-game Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division weekend series against Pitt-Johnstown. SRU will host the Mountain Cats for two games Friday at Critchfield Park before traveling to Johnstown for a pair of games Saturday. First pitch on both days is set for 1 p.m.
