INDIANA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team lost a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division match on the road, 6-1, at Indiana University (Pa.) Wednesday.
Â

Â
The latest Atlantic Region rankings were also released Wednesday and The Rock remained slotted fourth for a second straight week behind IUP, West Virginia State and Charleston. Conference Tournament champions from the PSAC, Mountain East Conference and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association as well as the next four highest ranked teams in the region at the end of year qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
Â
Natasha Munday and Joanna Stralka gave IUP the early edge in doubles play as the duo opened the contest with a 6-0 win in the first flight over
Lois Page and
Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez.
Â
IUP went on to secure the doubles point when Karolin Kirchtag and Katy Graydon, the PSAC individual doubles champions in the fall, defeated
Teddi Isherwood and
Gabriela del Val del Toro from the second flight, 6-2.
Â
While it had no bearing on the doubles point, Slippery Rock did head into the singles portion of the match with some momentum as
Zoe Heed and
Georgie Lancaster captured a 6-2 win in the third flight over Laura Dunarova and Lydia Vlachou.
Â
The back end of the Crimson Hawks' lineup opened singles competition with a pair of 6-2, 6-1 wins as Vlachou bested Isherwood from the fifth flight while Dunarova defeated Hood in the sixth slot.
Â
Indiana was then able to clinch the match in the first flight where Kirchtag got the better of Page 6-4, 6-3.
Â
The remainder of the match saw Stralka outlast Gonzalez Sanchez (4-6, 6-0, 6-1) and Graydon edge
Nuria Martin Lopez (6-0, 7-5) before del Val del Toro helped SRU avoid the shutout courtesy of a 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 win against Munday in the third flight.
Â
del Val del Toro's win improved her record on the year to 21-6 overall. She has now won six straight matches and is a perfect 5-0 in the PSAC West.
