SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Â Â The No. 30 Slippery Rock University baseball team picked up its 10th straight win of the season as it completed a four-game series sweep of Saint Anselm College with an 18-8 victory Sunday at Jack Critchfield Park.
Â
Slippery Rock exits the weekend with a 10-0 overall record and as the only undefeated team in Division II while Saint Anselm leaves SRU at 7-10. All told, The Rock outscored the Hawks 52-10 over the four games.
Â
SRU trailed Saint Anselm 4-1 through three inning Sunday before scoring 17 consecutive runs to break the game open and maintain its perfect record.
Â
The rally started in the fourth inning when
Alex Robenolt belted a leadoff home run to trim Slippery Rock's deficit to two runs. SRU proceeded to overtake Saint Anselm an inning later as The Rock plated eight runs in the fifth highlighted by a two-run double from
Koby Bubash to take a 10-4 lead they would never relinquish.
Â
Slippery Rock went on to score eight more runs over the following three innings and while the Hawks were able to score four runs in the ninth, they never truly threatened SRU's lead as The Rock closed out their fifth double-digit victory of 2022.
Â
Eleven Rock batters combined to total a season-high 21 hits on Sunday with Robenolt leading the way on another impressive 4-for-5 day at the plate that included two runs scored, one home run and three RBI. Robenolt has hit home runs in each of SRU's last three games.
Â
Eddie Morris and
Joel Spishock each went 3-for-5 with Morris scoring three runs and Spishock tallying four RBI.
Â
Abraham Mow,
Jon Kozarian and
Connor Hamilton all collected multi-hit games as well. Mow concluded the contest with three RBI and a triple while Kozarian drove in two runs and Hamilton registered his team-leading 17th RBI of the year.
Â
Bubash,
Evan Knaus,
Luke Trueman,
Joe Ehland and
Braden Olson had one hit apiece with Ehland also stealing one base and providing SRU with two RBI.
Â
While the offense supplied more than enough runs, starting pitcher
Andy McClymonds (2-0) settled in following a shaky start to hold the Hawks without a run, and just one hit, in his final three innings pitched before giving way to The Rock's bullpen. He concluded the start by giving up four runs on nine hits while striking out seven batters in six innings.
Â
Drew Delaney came on for McClymonds in the seventh and pitched two scoreless innings thanks in part to three strikeouts.
Â
JT Wolke opened the ninth for SRU, but could never quite find his command as he hit five batters leading to
Colby Anderson coming in and eventually recording the final three outs of the game in his first appearance of the season. All four runs scored by Saint Anselm in the ninth inning were charged to Wolke.
Â
Saint Anselm starting pitcher Matthew Michel (1-1) was solid for the Hawks through four innings before a tough fifth frame. His day ended with seven runs allowed on eight hits and one walk in 4.1 innings pitched.
Â
Slippery Rock returns to competition when it opens Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play with a four-game series March 25-26 against Indiana University (Pa.) SRU hosts the Crimson Hawks for two games March 25 before traveling to IUP for a March 26 doubleheader.
