SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost a home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game to No. 3 Shippensburg, 6-0, Friday night at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The loss snaps Slippery Rock's two-game winning streak and moves its record to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC while the nationally ranked Raiders maintains their undefeated record at 8-0 overall and 2-0 in league contests.

The Slippery Rock defense was great in the first half as it allowed just one goal, a late score in the first quarter on a deflection, while ultimately defending nine other Shippensburg shot attempts and clearing four corners to take a one-goal deficit into the halftime break.

However, Shippensburg was able to put the game away in the second half with five goals over the final 30 minutes. The Raiders scored twice in the third quarter and three more times in the fourth on the way to its win.

Erin Roland paced The Rock's offensive efforts with three total shots, two of which were on goal, while
Leslie Colliver also produced three shot attempts with
Haley Metcalf tallying one attempt.

Defensively, goalkeeper
Grace Burker stopped 10 shots over 60 minutes.
Nadia Irving and
Alex Held tallied defensive saves as well on the night.

Shippensburg was led by Lilly Cantabene, who had a hat trick. As a team, the Raiders held advantages over Slippery Rock in total shots (23-7), shots on goal (18-2) and penalty corners (7-2).

Slippery Rock continues its PSAC schedule when it travels to Mansfield University 4 p.m. Oct. 12.
